Haven't seen another thread directly on topic.
A couple with oblique references.

Miracle on Ice happened in Lake Placid with some Wisconsin Badger Hockey players on Team USA.
One of those was Mark Johnson. Who is the current Coach for Wisconsin Badger's Hockey.
Currently there are 9 Wisconsin Badger Women's Hockey players competing in the Winter Olympics. 5 on one team, 4 on another. Team USA and Team Canada are expected to be opponents in the final game for Gold. All 9 players could be in the same final game.

I would expect Team Canada to be in the gold medal round for hockey.

Also Canada now has 10medals in its possession.

I think I heard that Canada has won Gold in every Olympic Women's Hockey since the category became Olympic, except the first year when USA took Gold.

It seemed a little funny that 4 or 5 of the best Women's Hockey players in Canada wanted to play as Wisconsin Badgers - they dreamed of it as kids. And Miracle on Ice must have been 2 decades before they were born.
Almost sounds as if there is no place in Canada to play Hockey. At least not as much as Wisconsin. Maybe it's all that warm weather in Madison, a top national Party School.

Perhaps American women have better things to do than play silly games. Did you ever think of that Brenda?

Canada has picked up a 4th bronze medal which makes 11 medals in total. We are now just behind the USA.

I hope you're good a math. There are 36 million Canadians that supply you with your team. There are 324 million Americans that supply us with our team.

Do the math and give Canada a handicap. It's only fair. Make sense?

I think it would be amazing if you even came close to medaling the same or better than the U.S.. If you look at high schools with the best winning records, they are the biggest ones. Do you get where I am going with this The fact that you and even other smaller countries are leading in medals is incredible.

Are you stupid?
The thread title has WINTER Olympics. Canada has far more WINTER than almost all of the contiguous United States. Vast swaths, possibly a majority of Americans don't even know what WINTER is.
I would generally be surprised if Canada did not have significant collection of Medals in any WINTER Olympics. Likewise Norway Sweden, Greenland, Iceland.
The US teen Gold winner from Torrance needed her dad to drive 10 hours round trip each weekend for her to have snow to practice with, at Mammoth. Many Canadians can practice in their backyard every day, some even every day of the year.

Have 13 medals now. And Toronto is a pretty big city as is Vancouver. Lots of our winter athletes come from those two cities and also Montreal and Quebec City.

No we are still behind Germany. They have 20 and Norway have 28.

First might be a stretch but I'm thinking second is a good chance.

Good for the USA.

No one is going to beat Norway this year. Canada still has a slim shot at 2nd, I think. But if not 3rd is still pretty respectable.

Apparently Canada Olympian K Osmond practiced 4 times per week at her local shopping mall.

Also, reportedly only 3 women have landed a Triple Axel in Olympic history. The only one this year is not even ranked in the top 10. That seems weird for the best of the best.

Currently there are 9 Wisconsin Badger Women's Hockey players competing in the Winter Olympics. 5 on one team, 4 on another. Team USA and Team Canada are expected to be opponents in the final game for Gold. All 9 players could be in the same final game.

Sounds like USA played Canada for Olympic Gold vs Silver. And USA won. These 9 women must have been psyched to be on top of the world for that game.

I guess Canada jumped ahead of Germany for 2nd highest total of Medals.

If we got beat then there are always Junior and world hockey games were can meet again and maybe beat you. :)

And yeah those medals today should have moved us into 2nd.

I'm sorry, I didn't intend to sound like I was disagreeing with you. I was more commenting upon the hypocrisy of the ADHD Market in America.
In America the Network records the events but then plays them in Prime Time, and keeps using the term "Live" when the stage is the opposite side of the planet. I suspect the Network contracts prohibit news of the results, embargoed until the Network has seen fit to play the edited final cut. Many Americans seem to be willing to believe that Korea is the Time Zone near their home.
I expect your news was more accurate, and did not search for confirmation either way.
If you look at website nbcolympics I think they do not update the results until the network masquerade has been broadcast.

I must state that I am glad that the activities seem to have gone well. No spying and shower recordings like Russia, no health-jeopardy and rampant crime like Rio, and no terrorism.
How many years has it been since such International fellowship was successful?

No, no. I look at a couple of sites for the medals and one site has them all backwards. Not sure why.

I know the American networks often tout these events as live when they broadcast but are recorded. That must be in the contracts they sign to be able to show some of the events on the news. True people don't think of the time difference and that Korea is on the other side of the world from them. CBC is usually pretty good and accurate for things like this.

It was nice not to hear of anything horrible happening at the Olympics. Don't know JSF. Don't know but it was nice to see the actual meaning of the Olympics expressed.

Canada has placed a respectable third just behind Germany.

11 Gold medals will be coming with them and our athletes will be welcomed home with honour.

Think this may include an invite from the PM to Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

I did not realize that NHL players were not allowed to participate in the Olympics. The Canadian members voted majority to not participate, and US members agreed with a larger percent vote.
Sounds like IOC may not allow participation in 2022.

This was S Korea.
2020 is Tokyo, and 2022 is Beijing, right?

Not sure if I knew that or not.

These Winter games were in South Korea. Would have to look up when the next games are summer and winter. They are every 4years.

This time seemed unusual for USA.
Didn't win some Golds, like when NHL players were forbidden.
But won some Golds in events that we had never Medalled in before.

Haven't really seen a summary of this, just putting together different pieces.

These games did seem a little unusual for the USA. Usually it is the USA, Canada is trying to beat. This time we did it easily.

A week after the conclusion of the Winter Olympics, Sir Roger Bannister passed away.
He was an Olympian in 1952, 4 years before his historic milestone, when he retired in the same year he became the first to run a mile in less than 4 minutes.

RIP Sir Bannister.
