LUCIFER

Hey guys, Total Film, a British film magazine, ran a feature on the 4 new films to take off. Serentiy was one, billed as:
"The new... Star Wars"
Here's the text of the article:
Lets face it - the last good sci-fi movie was a long time ago and a galaxy far, far away. Mired in shonky CG, cardboard characters and sggy scripts, the likes of "The Chronicles of Riddick" and the last two "Matrix" installments, as well as the critically sneered-at "Star Wars" prequels, have built stratospheric expectations for George Lucas to get it right with "Revenge of the Sith" this may. And whether he flares or fails, "Serenity"'s timing couldn't be better.
As "Episode III" heralds the end of Lucas's saga, the stage is for Joss Whedon's big-screen update to his doomed TV series "Firefly" to sate his fanbase and snare a post-"Wars" generation aching for a new universe to get lost in. "Yes, we need a new sci-fi mythology," says Mike Goodridge, US Editor of "Screen International". We need a new history, a new set of characters to be enthralled by." Focusing on an eclectic crew grifting their way through the aftermath of a galactic civil war, the "Buffy" creator's sci-fi epic is buttressed by richly drawn characters as much as spectacular effects. Much, in fact, like the original "Star Wars" trilogy.
"People aren't as impressed by effects as they were before," adds Goodridge. "They feel conned by CGI landscapes. They're all looking for the next "Star Wars", and "Serenity" can create a story that people care about. It could be it."

That's all folks, hope you enjoyed it!

ZEEK

I'm liking the positive press our BDM is starting to get. Now if we can just get the cover of Entertainment Weekly or something big right before the movie.

Wasn`t this a while back or is this a new article? what`s the issue? the quote that Serenity could be the new Starwars is not a new one, hence the asking.

Thanks

It's from the march issue, which was, of course, on store shelves very late in january.
The comparison is in a series of four, the other three being
Sahara is the new Raiders of the Lost Ark
Mr. & Mrs. Smith is the new True Lies
The Chronicles of Narnia is the new LOTR

Oh god, Sahara is the new Raiders? I don`t think so, saw the trailer, very much obvious CGI, and a lack of acting(well in the trailer anyway) - there was that `National Treasure` last year that was going to compete with Indies glory, but that vanished rather quickly.

I thought that was an old story, thanks for clarifying.

YT

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

Yah, based only on the trailer you understand (which means I'm being unfair), Sahara looks like the next National Treasure.

Keep the Shiny Side Up . . . (wutzon) the Dead, "Sugar Magnolia", from "Live from Bonnaroo Music Festival 2003"

And, as an aside, am I the only one that was shaking their head because of the above comparison? Ummm, was True Lies really that genre-defining?
