Is that a lot for this kind of thing? Just curious, as I have no context to know if that's a lot or not...

ETA: After reading the article, at least it's in the top 50 for July, so that ain't bad...

Jayne, your mouth is talkin. Might want to look into that.

38,500 / 2.5 = is about 15000 people got them. ( people bought all 3 covers and few only bought 1 cover thats how I came up with the 2.5 )

That's good math 258westauthentic.

It's not bad Shiny - it's good in the sense that it wasn't published by either Marvel or DC and so it was never going to be "up there". - in comparison Joss' Astonishing X-Men sold 127,800 - which translates as 127,800 people since it dodn't have a varient cover (although some people buy two copies - one to read, one to keep).

Also, remember these are the numbers for issue one - the "sold out" issues as ordered by retailers who may have underestimated the demand.
We still have reprints and trade paperbacks to come so the available comic audience may well be higher indeed.

I doubt that many people bought all 3 cover variants. I'm a hardcore fan and even I wasn't prepared to shell out another £3 (or whatever it was) just for a different cover.

I think that issue 2 (& 3) could sell more, it was a fantastic comic and surely everyone who bought it went on to get issue 2.

But you're more a specialist, selling to the hardcore Firefly fans on the net (with lots of cool extras too!). Whereas comic books stores are more likely to sell just one copy.

*feels unhardcore for just buying the Mal cover then giving it away*

The two stores I stopped by in my town were both sold out. Good news for browncoats, bad news for me ;)

I bought all three covers for me,
plus three extra 'Mal' covers to send to friends & family...
only to find it wasn't enough. I could use some extra copies to loan out to people who want to read it.

My local comic book store sold out, but promises to have a bigger order on hand when 'Serenity #3' comes out (because they don't like selling out so quickly)

I couldn't find issue 1 so I ordered it from http://www3.tfaw.com/search/index.html?sstring=serenity+cover&cart=523
1307297318054
and preordered 2&3 All covers. I feel stupid about stuff like this though because the value on most comics will never rise much more than the cover price. Everyone, their mothers and gradmothers keep comics baged and boarded these days.

Oh I didn't get the comics for their resale value;
I got them because I loved them.
At first I thought that just getting and reading one would be enough,
but when I saw all three covers I realized I wanted them all
(hey they are cheaper than getting all the action figures!).

If 'Serenity' really takes off and becomes a franchize then maybe these comics will go up in value
(in which case you could sell them at a profit someday)...
or they might just be wonderful keepsakes when you are old and grey,
remembering how you loved the show before the movie was even released.

No matter what they are better value than the half a ton of old Buffy & Angel magazines I wanna get rid of! LOL

I ordered all three variants of all three comics, not for resale value or what have you...

But just 'cause I love all the characters.

I'm that twee.

(And, yes, so far issue #1 and #2 have made me laugh out loud).

Also guilty of ordering all 3 covers of all 3 issues, though I still haven't got mine.

Any idea when I'd be likely to get them 258West? (Ordered them from you mid July...)

And I didn't order multiples for any reason other than I wanted them, coz' they have the people I love on the cover.

Can we start getting sexed already?

Didn't order all 3 covers. The cover art isn't so good that I have to have it all and I'm more interested in the story anyway. I expect 258West's stats are not representitive because most shops were not selling packs of 3 and were not advertising on fan forums. I already knew that the comics were doing well because it was so hard to find a shop which hadn't sold out.

I only have one o f each right now. I do also want the Book cover, but I'll have to see on how to get it b/c I haven't seen ANY available covers left after the fans got to it.

Now if I liked every cover, I'd get one issue and just get Tradeback...or maybe only that...*shrugs* oh well

I definitely bought all the covers, and most of the sites I went to when shopping for them offered a 3-cover bundle so methinks that's a common way in which they're selling them. I'm also not interested in resale value, only in collecting all nine of those marvelous cover illustrations! Since this is the first time I've ever bought "comic books" of any sort, this was quite a departure for me. I blame Joss.

I have one of each - plus a signed one -

It is standard practice for true nerds to buy all the different covers of a comic they love / view as being collectable -

That's why the publishers publish them.

The comic sale isn't bad for a spin off at all. I'm not sure if that sales figure applies worldwide or just to American sales alone. Diamond Comics Distributors used to have the sales split into four separate parts. Europe having it's own sales, Australia and that part of the world it's own chart as well. Things may have changed however.

Oh and just because I can my local shop still has loads of issues of Serenity and ships worldwide to. Try their website as they even have first prints most of which are at cover price. www.thecomicguru.co.uk

The comic is pretty impressive so far. I'm not sure that the Kaylee cover of issue 2 warrants the £15.00 pounds it's getting at auction but I was lucky enough to get them when they were first shipped.
