The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

There's not many DVD's I'd double dip on - but Firefly? If there was more extras? Definitely

Freaks and Geeks could be a good role model for a re-release

Not only did every episode have a commentary by cast, crew, fans (hell even castmember's parents!) but the majorty had two commentraies each plus had some behind the scenes shorts and deleted scenes too.
It didn't have a documentary though - which was the only downside

Personally if the show is rereleased - it needs the full blooper reel (I dont know why it was left out - truly one of the biggest disappointments of the set), any behind the scenes footage that was filmed, the intro to the show (even if Joss never wanted it in the show - it could be an easter egg or feature in the deleted scenes section) plus lots of commentaries.
Maybe it was just a rumour but I was sure when the set was announced it was said there would be commentaries on every episode. Am I wrong?
Plus maybe a mini-featurette on the cast and crew's views on making the jump to the big screen
Oh and possibly footage of conventions and Q&A's
Maybe another featurette on the Firefly phenomenon too - that would be one on the fans

Yes some of these features could appear on the Serenity DVD (it better be a double-disc!) but obviosuly some wouldn't

How about a Ultimate Serenity: The Complete Story box set. 6 discs of the series and the movie. Of course, it wouldnt be the complete story if it was to be made into a trilogy.

...

I'm rambling now

Me? I'm not mad at George for making money.
He works=He makes money.
No one has been forced to spend money on George's stuff.

You think Joss is writing Firefly to not make some money? You think he wrote and directed Serenity FOR FREE?
This is his job. He's SUPPOSED to make money.
Just like George Lucas.
You think Joss and Universal don't hope that Serenity doesn't become the next Big Franchise?

Sorry, I'm just really sick of the bitchy hatin' of George Lucas 'cause he makes some coin.

Are you kidding me? You seriously believe the re-re-re-re-releases of Star Wars are work that warrant millions of dollars? You're comparing these to Firefly and Serenity?

George Lucas is not producing his dribble for anything more than profit profit profit. He specifically said he won't release the original versions of the Star Wars trilogy on dvd because it would cost millions of dollars. The same millions of dollars that fans gave to him over the many many years.

Joss is a totally different person. He goes out of his way to cater to fans. He goes to conventions and posts to websites. Sure he's making money but if he were in it for the money, he would have listened to Fox and made the changes they wanted because they were signing the checks. He's out there making things he loves for fans who love his work. It just so happens that we happily send him our money for his efforts.

YT

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same

I love special features, so I've popped for special editions of several movies I already owned on DVD (does it bug anyone else when the only DVD release is a special edition?). The only one I regret is Predator. Lots of features -- maybe enough for two discs, though that isn't obvious -- the main two are a Making Of documentary & the director's commentary. The Making Of is the same one that's on the original DVD edition, and in his commentary, the director (who shall remain nameless, but his initials are John McTiernan) comes off as a pompous jerk. I recommend the less expensive original edition.

Don't get me wrong, I like special features too and always go for the 2 disc option. But when it comes to buying a dvd only for it to be rereleased a few months later, I'd have to like it a damn lot to justify the expense. The main reason for this is that I dont watch the extra features as much as I used to. When I first got DVDs, one of the first things I did was watch the extras - now not so much, unless its a tv series or a movie I really love.
Although I'd watch them, I'm not so much into the technical side of things (such as how they tweak computer graphics to get the lighting right on a dinosaur's back), its the behind the scenes footage, interviews and of course bloopers that interest me most. And when it comes to Joss Whedon's shows - commentaries. They can be very hit and miss in general, but I don't think I've listened to a Firefly/Buffy/Angel one that wasn't informative or at least entertaining
