...named Serenity the 3rd best film of the year (behind A History of Violence & Brokeback Mountain), calling it "the year's best underrated movie". They also gave Whedon 3rd best debut of the year, saying he trumped the recent Star Wars with a fraction of the budget.

Thanks for the link.

I think Summer Glau should have made the Best Actress list at least, but I'll take the kudos the DBM (and Joss) got.

Zoë: Thanks for the re-enactment, sir.

I'm a HUGE fan of Starwars but I must admit that Serenity (including Firefly) got a little something that Starwars don't have and that's what makes this movie so special. It is well deserved

P.S. I'm new on this website and I want to say a little hello to everyone here

Most definately. She's incredibly talented.

Good to see Serenity and Joss gettin' some well-deserved praise.

And for the record, I also thought Serenity was better than Episode III.

For my $.02, I agree that Serenity was better than Sith.

But I still really, really dug the hell out of Sith.

Wow.... that seems to be our lot in life when it comes to Firefly/Serenity. Great movie, few saw.

This was a very good article, and they explained why the good (and bad) movies of the year are very note-worthy. And 'note-worthy' has absolutly nothing to do with Box Office scores.

But I agree, I wish Summer had made Best Actress list.

Awlright! That's wonderful news!

But I certainly think that at number one should have been...

Sideways

With the criminally neglected 'Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang' at no.2, followed by Serenity. C'mon, Firefly flans! You saw Serenity struggle at the B.O, don't you care about the year's other great marketing-abused flick? Please! Run and see this film!

OMG! *Our* little movie got named third best of the year, and in such exalted company as "History" and "Brokeback"? Yowza. Talk about your good publicity. And hey, every little bit helps, right? (Maybe the writer's a Browncoat... )

EMBERS

'Sideways' came out in 2004, so it wasn't in the running (but did make it to a lot of people's lists last year since it was a nomination for last year's best oscar)
unfortunately 'Serenity' will NOT be nominated for any oscars... :(

It is really encouraging that it hasn't been forgotten...and this kind of article should help DVD sales

Yeah, Joss also thought 'Sith' was awesome, but I think he'll happily enjoy the compliment that HIS movie had that something extra (like good dialoge, wonderful acting, a more surprising plot with actual plot twists....).

Further down--you have to read the whole article-best quote

Other 2005 genre movies that carried their weight with both grace and unpredictability: A History of Violence; Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang; Serenity; . . . What distinguished all these movies was the conviction that genre films, because they arrive in such identifiable packages (we know the general shape of a sci-fi or a detective story), can become, like a poem written in a formal structure such as a sonnet or a villanelle, a field of play for the artists involved, capable of impudence and surprise—the shock of the new wrapped in the context of the familiar

Think! It's Patriotic!

Isnt it sad that these Star Wars prequels are movies probably never to get repeat viewings (certainly not by me). I mean i've lost count of the times i've watched the originals over the years they are just.. special but the prequels are just gossur..

Serenity will surely wear a groove in my DVD players tray.

Congratulations Joss and the Cast and Crew of SERENITY!!!

I've not seen the two films above it, but seeing as how I loathe Cronenberg films I don't think I'm going to like A History of Violence. But you never know....

Anyway Well done SERENITY.

and yes! Joss has replaced Lucas as the master of creating a story in space. It blew all the Star Wars film outa the water since Empire Strikes Back.

It is nice to see a clever and creative genre movie be recognized as one of the better movies in what can be described as a dismal year for movies. The show , however, is still superior to the movie and we should all make a concerted effort to rvive the show by purchasing 2 or 3 copies of the DVD to induce someone to revive the show

HUMBUG

When I saw this movie for the first time I was sitting on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. It was so exciting and new and loud. The characters were fun &/or scary and the universe the film depicted was new and exciting and exotic and dangerous. It really broke new ground in terms of the kinds of films that were being made in Hollywood and the special effects were quite literally "out of htis world"!!!

Does this description of a movie sound familiar?

I remember when the first Star Wars movie came out back in the day (I was 5 years old at the time) . This was the kind of buzz and excitement that was gernerated at the time. I was hooked on sci-fic from then on.

Thank you Joss for making Serenity - a film which was all these things and more. And thanks to all the cast and crew and special effects guys for making a film which was such an experience and thrill to watch.

Please, please, please keep making more adventures for the characters in this FAN-RUTTING'-TASTIC world you created.

Serenity and Firefly forever!! Jayne Rocks!!!

Yes, the original three are special!
The next time I suspect I will see the gorram lame 2nd (1st?-wtf) trillogy is if my son, when he gets older, has a curiosity that needs addressing.

Serenity, on the other hand, will surely gain the status Blade Runner enjoys now, whether or not sequels come.
And yeah, I'm gonna wear my copies out too!!!

Whatever the $ take, the cream of Serenity will rise to the top of cinema history- our BDH's are forever.

I've had a devoted Star Wars fan tell me that he was anticipating "Serenity" equally as much as "Sith". To a fan girl like me, that certainly says something.
