I know this isn't a really political posting site, and believe me I am far from a political person. But I am an American and Very proud of it. 2 years ago someone attacked my nation. In those horrible moments many innocent people we're killed. You just can't take that lightly. So don't. Please, take a moment and remember them. And say a prayer to "Whoever" you think is listening that this nation and other nations stay safe and we never have to witness such needless destruction ever again.

You don't fix faith, It fixes you.

i DO aim to misbehave

I'm wearing a memory tear. It's a sterling silver pin in the shape of a tear with a rose carved inside. I wear it for everyone who died before their time. Before, I only wore it for my own loved ones. Today I wear it for the victims of September 11 and for their families.

I was sitting in a cubicle on the 16th floor of a high-rise in downtown Minneapolis when that horrible day began. Thousands more witnessed and suffered much worse. It has been said that September 11 is another day that will live in infamy. It should.

This isn't a political thing. It's a human thing.

“We three are the only ones in this place wearing brown.
Means we’ve found something worth fighting for.
Something worth being more than alive for.”

SUCCATASH

I didn't know it had happened until I got to work, and everyone in the office was freaked out and I was like, "What?"

On the morning of September 11th, 2001, I tried to read the Yahoo news about some plane crash in New York but the server was too busy and I kept getting page errors.

I arrived at my work just in time to watch the second tower fall. Everyone was in the break room glued to the TV. It was impossible to see.

Where were you?

I remember think "Just how STUPID a pilot would have to be to hit one of those towers, on a clear day." Its not like its a moving target or the building was jumping up and down at the time.

Then the second plane hit. Then the Pentagon. Well, everyone knows the rest.

Flights were grounded all over the US. Yet despite that, a single plane kept making a loop up and down the length of the SF bay all night long, for several weeks, even after air service had returned. Just a single set of lights at first, constantly patrolling up and down, up and down.

I don't know. It was somewhat comforting, sitting outside having a smoke, knowing that someone was standing watch.

LOTV

I was at a local bar trying to talk with the manager to secure my band playing there in a couple of weeks.

He was watching the TV and said that a plane had hit the North Tower. I thought it was tragic, but accepted it as "It happens", and we discussed buisness.

It wasn't until I returned back to my apartment that I was told by my roommate that the second plane hit...

I think we all remember the realization of that moment, when we saw it wasn't an accident...

Such a tragic day indeed...

I was at home, obviously not watching TV. A friend called me and told me about it. I turned on the TV and watched Tower 2 fall. I sat in front of the TV in disbelief. At the time I worked in entry level management at the Embassy Suites hotel. Needless to say we had some major changes. The most memorable was all the people in rental cars who were basically grouped together because they were going the same direction.

I was at work. My wife called and asked that I bring home her set of keys because I had accidently brought with me both sets, mine and hers. When I returned to work, a co-worker said that a plane had hit the WTC. I had only a moment to think of the bomber that crashed into the Empire State Building back in the 40's when someone said the a second plane hit the other tower, then the Pentagon, then Pennsylvania...

Freedom is Important because People are Important

I was sitting at work.

Got an email from a friend in Great Britain. Ironic, that. He was the first to know. Before anyone at my job.

Says a plane crashed into the WTC. Condolences, mate. All that.

I ask, "Intentional?"

He says, "Not sure."

The question was resolved very briefly.

BEANNACHD

I was asleep. My husband called me, I was pissed he woke me up to tell me a plane crashed. Another crash? So what, I shrugged.

Since I was awake, and not likely to get back to sleep, I turned on the TV to see if the thing was on the news. Started crying when I realized the second plane hit - watched the towers go down, and didn't turn the TV off for days.

I remember being afraid when the planes started flying again. Feeling fear every time I looked up at the sound of a plane overhead.

Last year - I was twitchy, anxious, depressed - from mid-Aug thru Sept. I had the ceremonies on all day - crying.

It was odd - last summer, around July - a plane flew over Coney Island, where we swim. My (then 3 yr old) son looked up and said, very matter-of-factly, "That plane's gonna crash into the pool."

I was so shocked, I didn't say anything right away. I stopped, and told him it wouldn't, all the while thinking I could be lying to the boy, because I didn't KNOW. I swallowed my fear and doubt, and reassured him, because that's what grown-ups do.

This year, I wasn't so bad off - but I still watched the specials all week on PBS. Somehow, I just needed to. Had to bear witness. Like I may not have had to live through it, but the least I could do was not turn away.

Never forget.
