Quote:TITAN BOOKS TO GIVE FANS LONG-AWAITED FIREFLY COMPANION Fresh from their success with the SFX Reader Award-winning Serenity: The Official Visual Companion, Titan Books is thrilled to announce the acquisition of World Rights for the first-ever companion to Joss Whedon’s cult television series Firefly. Titan Books, leading publisher of graphic novels and film and television companions, promises that Firefly: The Official Companion, scheduled for publication this summer, will be just what the show’s fervent fans, the Browncoats, have been waiting for. Editor Adam Newell says, “We can’t reveal details just yet, but rest assured that we are planning to make this Big Damn Book as shiny as possible…” Anyone who wants to receive updates about the project should send an email with the subject header “Firefly” to readerfeedback@titanemail.com. 20th Century Fox VP, Domestic Licensing, Michael Peikoff notes, “We are confident that the creative team at Titan Books will ‘dead-on’ deliver to both the Firefly and Whedon fan base. This highly anticipated title, though slated for Summer 2006, is already receiving terrific buzz in the marketplace. We could not be more pleased to be working with Titan Publishing on this project.” Set 500 years in the future, Firefly centres around Mal Reynolds, captain of the ship-for-hire Serenity, and his eclectic crew of galactic misfits. The sci-fi television series has been a DVD phenomenon, selling almost half a million copies. The spin-off movie Serenity, which continues the Firefly story, was a commercial and critical success in the US and UK. Titan was a natural choice as publisher of the Firefly companion. The company has long been a supporter of Joss Whedon’s work, having sold more than 200,000 Whedon-related titles, and Titan’s recently released Serenity companion has proved a huge success with fans, winning the SFX Magazine Reader Award for Best Non-Fiction Book of the Year.

It also keeps Firefly/Serenity on the radar, and if Fox can see that anything related to the verse is snapped up by the fans ,it might make them reconsider the scrapping of the show. Forever hopeful I believe in Serenity

Wouldn't it be better if Fox makes lots and lots of dough from this? They own the rights and the only way we'll see more is if someone notices that money is being made and recognizes the potential for more. They might start to see that they've got the makings of a franchise.

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same
Quote:Originally posted by Ruxton: Amigo, you just don't get it. Joss will NEVER have anything to do with those bastards. I'm quite sure he will resurrect a TV show only after the Fox TV options expire, however long that may take; or the options are bought out, but that is unlikely given the success of DVD sales for both endeavors.
Quote:I don't think anyone's said it before, but it would have been FAR better for the series if Joss had buried the axe and run the Firefly series on the WB, where it might well still be running.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.
