This goes to an article on the NY Times website (service is free with signup). It talks about networks having some patience this season regarding new shows. While it doesn't mention Firefly per se, it might suggest a new mode of thinking by network executives. Of course, the logic could potentially bode well for Firefly; we'll have to wait and see. I, for one, can't believe it's taken execs this long to realize that a show might need some time to break out. SHOCKING!!

I suspect there's a lot of new thinking going on at Fox lately. Their recent decisions to hang on to Firefly despite traditionally low ratings AND to release the Fox-produced Angel Season 1 on DVD before syndication demonstrates to me the network is looking at new ways to increase revenue and re-examining old assumptions about how to measure a show's success. I'm certain the explosion of cable and satellite channels brought all of this on.

This does indeed bode well for Firefly. It also supports my belief that our cards and letters to Fox and the advertisers carry actual weight in Fox's decision-making process regarding the whole renew vs. cancel thing.

So keep firing off those cards and letters!! Who knows how long this open-mindedness will last?
