I have had my fears that Firefly could never survive on it's fanbase alone as far as future sequels but I'm beginning to get excited that the buzz is actually starting to grow. This thread is for listing the gathering signs of the upcoming Serenity phenomenon. For my part I just tried 7 or 8 Toronto comic shops for a copy of Serenity #2 and everyone was sold out in the first 2 days. Pretty impressive.

I went to the closest comic shop yesterday (Thursday the day after they arrived) and they had four copies of issue #2 left (I grabbed 2), yep good sign I say.

Both comic book stores nearest to me sold out #1 and #2 on the first day.

I managed to convert at least twelve people to the Firefly fandom in the past year or so, all in the course of a couple of months.

(Adding to the subthread) My comic book store's owner just came back from a trade show in Chicago. He said the Serenity #1 and #2 first prints, ANY cover, were nowhere to be found, and the vendors were asking each other about/for them. It was indicated to him that any first prints that can be found are likely to already be priced with a collector's premium. Yowsa.

If you happen to own one of those puppies, you might want to wash your hands a bit and treat it real gentle-like from here on out.

I work at a Rite Aid and today we just got both first issues of Serenity. That bodes well because when it comes to books, magazines, and comics we only get the popular stuff so Serenity comics are selling so well to be considered a popular comic book.

I made sure to place the Serenity comics in a prominent place when I did the magazines.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

I believe that they have to state it on the comic when they do reprints, since it can effect the value of classic comics...
but you CAN still get copies of the original first printing at below cover price here:

they have the first one so you can simply order it online, but the second issue hasn't been put up yet...but they have it. Email or phone (they have an 800 number).
They have both issues at below cover price,
and they will ship.

It is a very cool store! I stopped in there when I was in Manhattan in June.

I forgot to say...one of the signs of great things to come is the response we are getting at Sci-fi, fans of the regular Sci-fi show are becomng 'Firefly' fans, getting excited about the movie, and reading the comics:

My understanding has always been that if the indicia doesn't say anything about which printing it is then it's the first. And if it were a second or third, etc., the indicia would say which printing it was.

The indicias of my copies of neither #1 nor #2 say anything about which printing it is. So I hope I'm right.

I found my Copy of issue 1, just last saturday at a grocery store, and i don't see any indication anywhere of it being a subsequent printing!

...May have been the losing side, Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

The indicia is the part of a magazine (not just comics--all magazines) where it states the publication information about the magazine. It's usually in very small print and in magazines is usually in back but in comics is up front.

In the case of the SERENITY comics it's located on the inside front cover in that small print at the bottom.

For instance it says: Serenity #1, July, 2005. Published by Dark Horse Comics, Inc....
It then goes on to give Dark Horse's address, copyright by Universal, and their rights and Dark Horses rights, and the usual "any resemblence to anyone living or dead" disclaimer, and that it's printed in Canada.

Now my understanding is that if it's a second, third, etc. printing, then somewhere in that first sentence it has to say what printing it is.
Whereas first printings don't have to say it's a first printing because when it's first printed, the publishers don't know there's going to be a second.

That's why I think that if it says nothing about which printing it is then it's the first printing.

Then again I could be wrong.

I am not sure if it is the same in comic books but in print books, near the copyright line, there is a backwards listing of numbers. The lowest number left is the print run.

Thus 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 would indicate first print run

but 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 would indicate a second print run

First print run is rarely written as publishers don't always know there will be a second print run.
