The Vidiots at teevee.org are rolling out the Emmy substitute awards and they've named Firefly second place in the Best New Show '03 category. Apparently there's a tie for first.

They kind of refer to Browncoats as "slavish and maladjusted" but that's easily enough ignored.

However, the rest of the Vidiots recommend it only under duress. Besides, even when you write a glowing review of the show, the slavish, socially maladjusted pedants who hyper-analyze every frame ever shot under Whedon's watch will flood your inbox with missives berating you for not recognizing Firefly as a great American tome on par with "Moby Dick." So why even bother with a thumbs-up for Firefly, if your reward is the slings and arrows of nerds and shut-ins?

Sounds like they felt like the poll was hijacked or something. Hmmmm, "No such thing as bad press"? Not that I care much what they have to say. Anyone watching more than twenty seconds of mainstream commercial television is too brainwashed to tell the difference between Firefly and, well Fastlane for example.

That being said, there are more than a few overzealous browncoats who might let their righteous indignation get away from them. Not me though. Really....

Just know that it's a good show, try and catch the DVD, and please, please never write us another e-mail mentioning Firefly again.

Ohhh...well that's...interesting. Kinda funny, kinda sad, interesting. I think Firefly fans just tend to annoy people. I know that I catch myself annoying my friends about it. hehe

Well, getting burned so hard leaves its mark. I say we've weathered pretty well, all things considered. But yes, its hard not to annoy people when you get as angry as many of us do over what happened.

They make it sound as though they gave Firefly glowing reviews and still got hate mail. A LOT of hate mail. Because the reviews weren't glowing enough? C'mon. Who's been wasting time on those schmoes? If anyone should be getting hate mail it's fux.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Fortunately, some of us remember Star Trek, the Original Series.

We remember the show that wouldn't die because we refused to let it.

I suppose now that Firefly has come along, they want to find us asleep at the wheel.

What!? Why oh why must folks 'in the mainstream' always feel the perverse need to cruelly insult and denigrate fans of fantasy and science fiction? I've read some mean stuff on the web but this is too much. I personally try not to insult or belittle people I don't know; apparently these folks don't feel they are bound by the same 'golden rule'.I did a double take when I read this quote and checked the link myself. Ugh.Vicious. Oh well. At least they're making a Firefly movie. Serves me right for suffering when they pre-empted Firefly, for of all things, a Brady Bunch Goes To The White House, or some such.

I think they were just a little unprepared for Browncoat enthusiasm. Of course I think its perfectly justified, but if you look at the typical TV fare they all watch you can see how they might think it strange to have anything like a passion for a television show.

I think that's quite possible. I read their long review of Firefly (December?) and it WAS glowing. A really beautiful review, in fact. So I can understand if the reviewer was pissed about getting negative emails/mail. The review itself started out *seemingly* negative--maybe some well-meaning Browncoats jumped the gun in their response before finishing the review?

Of course I don't appreciate the fan-insults either. But they're just jealous because we're too pretty to die.
