This is actually big! The last time, Fox shut down an official MMORPG that Universal was producing. But Universal signed over the rights to Fox so now it's all under one roof.

Frankly if a blockbuster level Star Wars MMO can't make it then I don't think a Firefly MMO has any hope. I guess a lower budget MMO wouldn't need the same size player base to make a return but the MMO market is a really tough nut to crack. I'd rather see them just make a single player Firefly game. I actually think it would lend itself well to a Monkey Island or Space Quest style game. You could tell a good story complete with lots of Joss style dialog and humor.

That's fair. Actually, I'm starting to wonder if MMORPGs are starting to become old hat. SWTOR had a decent launch, albeit plagued with the usual launch issues, but it started to hemorrhage players.

While it has some unique features with conversation choices and companions compared to other MMORPGS, and I even still play because I want to see the class stories (and I'm incredibly slow leveling), I think ultimately it may have lost people because it's too much like World of Warcraft. The gameplay is almost exactly the same, there's really only four classes flipped across two factions, and ultimately even with the class stories, there's so much overlap on the worlds for quests that there's not a lot of replayability.

Plus due to the conversations, it can take a half hour just to get quests for an area or turn them in. Conversations that seem to let you roleplay your character how you want eventually become almost a chore, and it's not helped when the gameplay is something we've already seen before.
