HAKEN

Likes to mess with stuffs.

EW.COM - Joss Whedon is about to make a spectacular return to TV.

The Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator, and The Avengers director, has an “epic” new sci-fi series that was just greenlit by HBO.

Titled The Nevers, the series is described as “an epic science fiction drama about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world...

This is the news announcement regarding the show, so I think it fits here. Now when the show actually starts and we discuss it, that one would belong in OSFS.

It’ll be interesting to see what Joss is able to do with HBO’s sensibilities and not be held down FOX and the like.

Joss has been pretty hit or miss since Buffy/Angel/Firefly IMO. Dollhouse never really found its footing. Avengers was great. Avengers 2 was a mess. I'm not sure what to expect. I'll definitely give it a shot though. He's got a style of writing that when it works it works really well.

Full agreement.
Not sure if you were being argumentative, or missed the point.

This is News Headline Discussion forum. What better place to post breaking news of a new series from Joss Whedon? Hint: this site is Fireflyfans.net which was started more than 6 months before Firefly was first broadcast. So HAKEN was probably a follower of Joss long before fans of Firefly heard of him.

Now, following that, it is supposed to be a Sci-Fi show. The OSFS forum did not always exist here, it was a later add-on.
A Science Fiction Series.
Which is not Firefly, hence "Other"
Which will be created by Joss Whedon.
Who created Firefly.
Which was the Genesis of this site.
Which has a forum for Other Science Fiction Series.

Round hole, meet round block.

Of all the possible topics to be potentially discussed in OSFS forum, what could really be more fitting?

I liked Dollhouse, second to Firefly. I own both seasons.
Joss doesn't seem to work with the same cast of women more than once. Is Summer the exception?
So who will be cast? With HBO, they would each need a Nudity Clause in the contract, right?

I don't see details regarding the ages of these Victorian women, but if they are "just discovering" their abilities, then these could be more from the glitter girls camp.

And you didn't mention Agents of SHIELD, which seemed to have legs.

Whoops! I am surely wrong. I've been very tired lately.

This will certainly bypass OSFS forum and go straight to it's own forum in the Other Joss Whedon Series sub-group of forums.

But it is not there, yet.
Anybody wanna guess when HAKEN puts it there?

The way things are, I'm thinking Haken will say "F*** it" and shut the board down before the show comes out.

Well, that is what I thought happened in March 2012, when the web couldn't find the site.
So everything since then has been gravy for me.

In case I haven't said it enough, Thanks For Everything, HAKEN!

I think he only produced Agents of SHIELD. His brother and sister in law were the show runners if I recall correctly.

Casting is likely to be people he hasn't worked with before for the most part. He does seem to like giving roles to actors he previously worked with, but he tends to not take the leads from one show and make them the leads of another. So, it's possible for some guest stars from previous work to be the leads or for some prior leads to be guest stars. For the most part I'd expect new actors though.

People mentioned nudity. I wonder about that. I mean Joss doesn't have much of a track record for nudity. There was like one scene in Cabin in the Woods and that's all I can think of. It's not like HBO demands gratuitous nudity. There are some shows with very little. The Wire barely had any from what I remember. Westworld while they have nudity, it's not sexualized for the most part. It's mainly to show how park runners view the hosts are machines and nothing more. It's really Game of Thrones that leans heavily into nudity. So, I'm personally not expecting that to be a focus of the show.

The first 10 episodes have placeholders on IMDb, but only one Actress listed, and no release date.
Filming is listed as UK location.

Still no new forum listed here under "Other Joss Whedon Series" yet.
