America loves a winner!

Dropped right before Halloween, and I just got around to finishing it.

Kiernan Shipka is drop dead adorable as Sabrina Spellman. Michelle Gomez ( Dr. Who ) is great. And nice to see Miranda Otto ( Lord of the Rings )… there's fine acting all around.

Overall, I'd give it a C, possibly a B-. There were parts of the series I really enjoyed, as it sorta had a Buffy like feel to it, but no where near on par. Like Sunnydale, Greendale is ground zero for all sorts of old school witchery and satanic power. Baxter High is local HS where Sabrina and her friends attend, until she starts doing some sort of double duty at the secret Witches academy. ( Think Hogwarts, but much smaller )

Some of the characters start out fine, but then get really whiny and just aren't written well.

The Spellman family tree is a bit of a twisted tale. Sabrina has 2 aunts, sisters, but one is British while the other isn't.. not sure how all that works. Oh, and there's a cousin Ambrose , a warlock, who is black.

Lacking in this series so far is the ranking of witches by power. Age doesn't seem to be all that much a factor, not that I can tell. Sabrina, who is only a half witch, seems to be able to have Harry Potter like abilities at times. She grew up in a house of witches and a warlock, so the whole magic / spell verse clearly isn't new territory. But she's young, and clearly doesn't grasp all the rules and consequences...so it's a bit of a mixed bag. Unlike Buffy, who had to be taught her powers by a Watcher, Sabrina doesn't seem to get much in the way of helpful guidance. She just does things, and moves on.

Originally, this was suppose to be a companion series w/ the CW's Riverdale, but thankfully Netflix picked it up. IDK how many Archie comics fans there are in the world, but props to those trying to bring new life into those characters.
