I've only heard of Carnivale. What's it about? I've seen the Season 1 DVD's out in Wal-Mart and the like.

PURPLEBELLY

It has Clea Duvall. American Gothic meets Magical Realism in the Grapes of Wrath. Liberal subtext in sex-and-violence wrapping. Did I mention Clea Duvall?

I think I can understand why it's being reviewed. I don't feel the sense of development there is in a show like The Wire, so renewal only makes sense if people want more of the same.
I can't be a paying customer, so my tastes don't count
EDIT: but I completed the survey nonetheless. Keeping my devotion to Clea Duvall, and my use of illicit copies of TV shows, to myself.

Don't listen to Purplebelly! (no offense, PB!) First of all, Clea Duvall is the one character that annoys me, for no specific reason that I can think of. The show is set during the depression, and is about a travelling carnivale. Nick Stahl plays a reluctant healer, in which something else must die in order to save someone. Clancy Brown (Highlander) is perfect as Brother Justin, who has a large following, but is turning evil. So, it's basically a story of good versus evil, only it involves MUCH more than that! The second season moves much faster than the first, and I thought the first season was very intriguing! Amy Madigan, Adrienne Barbou (mispelled, I'm sure!), and Michael Anderson are a few of the other actors.

Give it a go, and let me know what you think!

That's it. Edgy, different, provocative. A gift from heaven. Must take the meds

It's basically a good versus evil , second Messiah versus Antichrist on Acid series. It was a little much for me. The premise was interesting, then it got weirder LOL.

For those that missed some episodes, and for those who haven't experienced Carnivale before, good news. From HBO...

Three Nights of Carnivale

In the final showdown for the fate of a generation, two men will unlock
unspeakable power...

Don't miss your chance to catch every episode of television's most
addictive series! HBO2 will air all 12 episodes of Carnivale's thrilling
season two, over three consecutive nights. Back-to-back-to-back-to-back
episodes begin at 8pm, starting Wednesday, April 6.

I'm guessing we will know an answer to Carnivale's fate sometime next week. The response to Friday's survey and the response from this week's marathon will tell the tale.

Missed him in that, but I accidently caught him on Earth 2 one night when I was channel surfing. Terry O'Quinn, Lost's John Locke, was on as well. Small world.

He's also played good guys, although I think he and especially his voice is best suited to be the bad fella!

And now it's official

From the Hollywood Reporter

Big tent folds as HBO cancels 'Carnivale'

HBO has pulled up stakes on "Carnivale," opting not to order a third
season of the series. Prospects for a "Carnivale" renewal have appeared
bleak since the sophomore season wrapped in March; the Dust Bowl drama
didn't increase its viewership and series creator/executive producer
Daniel Knauf already signed on to produce a series for Showtime (HR
3/22). "We have decided not to renew 'Carnivale,'" said Carolyn Strauss,
president of entertainment at HBO, in a statement. "We feel the two
seasons we had on the air told the story very well and we are proud of
what everyone associated with the show has accomplished." (Andrew
Wallenstein)

Well, that's just mince that is. I've just started watching this and damn, but I like it. Figures. Most of what I watch gets cancelled.

ANTHONYT

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I watched about 6 episodes of Carnivale, by virtue of its being aired before or after Deadwood.

I love Deadwood, incidentally. My only complaint about Deadwood is that the action develops slowly. Two or three episodes seem to be shown that build up to a flurry of activity, followed by a new buildup. I'm used to more action in my Westerns, but I love the writing and characters so much, I'm willing to wait.

Carnivale never caught me, and I think it's because in the six episodes I saw, only one event of real magnitude seemed to occur. That's just too long for me to wait for a payoff.
