I've only just now discovered that Disney is doing a live-action film of "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe", and that they've green-lit the next two books in the series for development.

These were books that I adored as a youth and cannot wait to see them brought to life!!!

I just finished watching the teaser trailer and it gave me chills! Imagine. . .the heroes we knew before anyone had even THOUGHT of Harry Potter. . .Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. . .on the BIG SCREEN!!!

I have to say, I'm getting a bit more excited about the L,W and W film though I wasn't at first.

Now if someone would just do a serious adaptation of John Christopher's Tripods trilogy (The White Mountains, The City of Gold and Lead and The Pool of Fire) then I'll be super stoked!

HELL'S KITTEN

I saw the first commercial for this movie this past weekend. I was in awe of my TV for a good 5 minutes before I came back to my senses. I barely remember anything about it; all I can remember is that I loved it. Now I can't wait to actually see a Disney film... what's the world coming to?

I am excited for this movie and am positive they will be better than the original movies (I believe TV but i remember you could rent them at my library). They were alright, but I really hope that they used a bit of their budget for special effects, especially for the latter films. Seeing (I believe and am often wrong) Eustace turned into a dragon and watching him scratch the whole thing off yet still being a dragon. Flying lion, talking animals. Very stoked.

On a side note. C.S. Lewis is one of my favorite authors, could be because he's a christian author and that's all my parents would let me read back then. So i read those books till they feel apart. Had to buy a new set a few years ago. But, Man, try reading all those books you missed as a kid and the ones you want to read now in a short time.

I saw the trailer too and it does look very good.
I love CS Lewis, but I think the stories are a little light-weight and moralistic compared to Harry Potter...
but still the trailer looks really beautiful.
I'll definitely be attending...
but I guess it isn't coming out until Christmas

I lived and breathed the Chronicles of Narnia as a kid. My older sister had me reading them as soon as I could read. I'm not in the least bit ashamed to admit that my sisters and I spent long hours pretending we were in Narnia, having all kinds of wild adventures. I'm really excited about the movies.

On a side note, why did they change the order of the books? It should be:

1)The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
2)Prince Caspian
3)The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
4)The Silver Chair
5)The Horse and His Boy
6)The Magician's Nephew
7)The Final Battle

But everytime I go to the bookstore to buy a new set, they're all in chronological order, i.e., 6,1,5,2,3,4,7. Did they wait for C.S. Lewis to pass away so they could mess around with his work? Why can't they just leave them in the order he wanted them to be in?

When I was a kid, my older sister had the whole set, so I spent a summer just reading them over and over again. I had no idea they were out of the order C.S. Lewis wanted them to be in. I suppose in the box set they put them in "chronological" order.

Man, I've got to go buy them!

I've been anticipating the movie (sometimes with dread, but mostly with excitement) especially since I learned that James McAvoy is Mr. Tumnus. Children of Dune had some faults, but he was INCREDIBLE as Leto. I mean, WOW.

When I was at Junior school, every single story I wrote in English featured characters from Narnia (oh, and The Fall Guy but we won't talk about that). Finally my teacher told me to stop it! I also remember making paper wings to stick on my toy horse!! The Magician's Nephew was always my favourite, and is the one I re-read most recently.

Haven't actually watched the trailer for this yet, must check it out.

That always freaks me out too...
but let me assure you that the trailer I saw for this Christmas is definitely
'The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe'
(and not The Magician's Nephew)
and it looks very magestic and beautiful...
with lots of cool special effects.
It definitely looks like something!

Well, don't shoot me or anything, but I got the original boxed set and could never understand why the books were out of chronological order. It confused me as a small girl. So I rearranged them in the proper timeline and have read them that way ever since. I liked that better because then all the stories built off of each other and I didn't have to remember things that hadn't happened yet.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

When I was a child my mother read The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe to me. I loved the story. I rediscovered it when I was in grade school when I received the entire set as a gift. I read them all and it became one of my favorite series.

When my son was about four years old I pulled the books off the shelf and began reading them to him. He has since developed his own love of the series, and it wonderful to share that enthusiasm with him, seeing my own childish fascination reflected on his face.

Now the series will be made into movies. Watching that trailer made me remember my joy from walking in Narnia so long ago and I can not wait to walk through the wardrobe again and see it on the big screen.

You're right. . .Eustace, the nasty younger cousin of the Pevensie children. In "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader", he found what appeared to be a dragon's treasure trove, put a gold bangle on his arm and discovered that overnight, it transformed him into a dragon.

The neat thing is they don't have to worry about the young cast aging. They age in the books years at a time, so no worries.

I think certain parents will think it's the perfect opportunity to explain to their children who among their friends is going to hell and who isn't; i.e. die as children - off to heaven, die as a young woman who wears lipstick and/or nylons - off to hell (or purgatory or void). And to think some people say us Brits are repressed about sexuality.

They're stripping all the Christian bits out of His Dark Materials for the movies, maybe the same will happen to The Narnia Chronicles. I hope not, for pretty much the same reason that I'm appalled by what they're doing to His Dark Materials; if an author has a message then you should either respect it or go adapt something else.

I had a very similar experience. My mom read to us all the time (even through high school

), and one of the first books I remember is The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. We read the Narnia books together a lot, and I read them over and over on my own. When I graduated from college my present to myself was my own Narnia set.

I had somehow missed out on this movie being made. The trailer looks amazing, I got very excited seeing Aslan, and I'm reassured by the fact that Weta is doing the effects. (It was nice to see all the familiar faces in that clip.)

Looks like it's time to reread the books again!
