There is a nessecity to have one thread appear in a Sci Fi forum before it is officially a sci fi board.

Which is better DS9 vs Babylon 5?
Two stations
two spiritual captains
two kick ass ships.

Which is your favourite?

I'll say B5

Who do you serve and who do you trust?

I'll second that. (Although I did like some of the DS-9 episodes.)

I don't like B5 one bit. I like DS9, though.

I guess that means I like DS9 better.

... I guess it's a Joss thing...

I can't really say, because I saw very little B5 - I wasn't impressed with much of what I saw at first, then got interested, but it was all pretty random and then the show got carried off to cable.

However, I watched DS9 from start to finish and really enjoyed it. The first ep where it completely clicked for me was the one about the alien who was being hunted as part of his species' behavior - it seemed horrible from Federation human standards but the alien guy wanted it that way and O'Brien assisted him in escaping so he could play the prey some more. So I liked it even when it was just a station and it was often more episodic in feel. It might have been caving, but I just saw it as good timing with a change of pace when they added Worf and the Defiant and the whole Dominion war arc kicked in. So I liked that, too. I liked the dark grittiness of a lot of it (compared to other STs), some of the moral ambiguity, and really liked a lot of the characters. My only real problem was that Terri Farrell leaving - Jadzia being killed off - was probably not what the writers intended (I think the actress left so the writers had to adjust) and, apologies to her fans, but I thought Ezri was miscast and not very well written anyway. And DS9 did have its share of clunkers, that's for sure. But I still liked it a lot and probably would have liked it more than B5 - just not definitely. And, kind of heretical, but - leaving aside TOS because it's on a plane of its own - DS9 is probably my favorite of the later STs - certainly better than Voyager or Enterprise (I watched Voyager for a season and some odd eps and Enterprise for a few eps before giving up in, well, "disgust" is a pretty strong word, but... ).
