David Tennant is a...Smurf.

I wonder if our friends across the pond get the reference.

Okay I'm trying to be patient with our 'post-Eccleston Doctor' here, I've only seen three episodes of series two so far, but I'm losing my cool. David Tenant looks and sounds like a smurf sans the blue skin and height impairment. Also (yes a preposition to start (got a problem with that?!)) he has no chemistry with Billie Piper whatsoever. No wonder she bailed. Between his vacant unblinking buggged-out-eyed-expressions and clenched teeth chipmunk speed annunciations I keep expecting him to say, "Have a smurfy day!"

Uuuughh! "I'm the new Doctor...run for your life!"

We brits know how you feel.

DT in the second series just didn't seem to get "it" (i'm one of those who agree Eccelston is better), but trust me when i say:

WAIT TILL THE FINAL EPISODE!! HE'S LIKE, ZOMG GOOD!!! HE REALLY IS AWESOME!!

the final episode is a corker, and i'm not going to spoil it.

Also, the writing in the Second Series is lacking, which doesn't help :( There are some fab momnets, but it just doesn't build/gel like the last series, yet its still fun too watch and enjoy.

That, and the supporting cast is great, especiall Noel Clarke as Micky "the idiot" and Rose's Mum, they get some great sceen time and are better than the previous year.

Hope that helps!!!

I liked S2 but they did seem to spend a lot of time developing the Torchwood story line for the spin-off. I guess since SGA was a success Sci-Fi is on a spin-off kick now. *sarcasm on* So looking forward to the Soap Opera-ish BSG spin-off.

America loves a winner!

Having only watched the new Dr Who program a few times and only knowing the basics of my Smurf lore, I'd say I kinda agree w/ your description.

And here I thought that was suppose to be why he's so enjoyable to watch.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

Yep. This is the third episode I've seen in which Tennant is the Doctor and he's still not doing anything for me. Tennant (from my perspective) has one thing going for him, right now, which is that he's between Heroes and Battlestar Galactica.

And I still like Piper, and I think the show has merit, but Tennant's eratic development is a poor substitute for Eccleston's brilliance.

David is a brilliant actor and a lot of fun to watch. I think the biggest problem with the first couple episodes of season two have been more a problem with the writing than his performance. I thought he was fantastic in "New Earth" when dealing with 'Cassandra' (or having his body taken over by her), but the story overall I felt was lacking. By the time we get to "School Reunion" the writing gets a LOT better and I felt it continued to do so to the end of the season, with the only exception being "Love & Monsters"...which was just really bad writing by RTD!

David tennant is a kick-ass doctor!!

Okay, so my very favourite doctor was always Tom Baker, who was very eccentric and quirky, back in the 70's...

But the new doctor is great because he gets so enthusiastic about how great human are.

And he and Rose have so much fun, and just are really giggly together.

Just wait as the season goes on. It may start off a little wonky, bu the soon gets right on track.

I agree totally about "Love and Monsters"......I wonder if they had to fill up one more episode to make Billie's contract, or some such. Still and all, the series overall was exceptionally well done, I felt. "New Earth"was, to me, a tip of the hat to George Romero--those diseased looked like they would have fit in just dandy in a shopping mall, don't you think? And for my fellow pirates and brit cohorts, we all know what a finale the season has in store, so let's all encourage all of the doubters to hang in there, it is worth the wait.

Many references are made to Eccleston's Doctor, and he was brilliant, no arguments there at all, but remember what got you so much was the fact that this was a new kind of Doctor, unlike any of the others, much more dark and troubled, and you loved him for that! So did I! Trust me when I tell you, DT is worth sticking it out for, he will carry on Eccleston's legacy to make you all proud!

isn't downloading grand? i download all of these great series, watch them all, and then go out and buy the box sets so i can have better versions and the extras........but it's great for feeding my need for immediate gratification......now, if everyone did it this way, then maybe the production companies would relax a little and let us all have some fun...........

oh, and just to keep this post on topic, when the finale comes along for this season, cancel your friday night plans, I don't care how good that party is, or how hot that date is, this is two hours of Doctor Who like you have absolutely never seen before!!!!!!!!

Allright I'll be patient with Mr. T and wait for the entire season to play out. By then I'd probably feel like I'm on my 10th regeneration myself. Hugh?!

The trouble with `Love and Monsters` is that the BBC ran a `design a monster` competition for the kids. The winning monster appearing in the series.
Its Ok considering they had little control over what the central character in the episode would look like.
And, be honest it had some good tongue in cheek humour about fandom.

Okay last two episodes were pretty good. Brilliant way to bring back Sarah Jane Smith and 'The Girl in the Fireplace,' what can I say? The writing was spectacular and the dialogue..."One can tolerate a world full of demons for the sake of an angel"..downright gossomer. Stephen Moffat deserves a medal.

As for Tenant...he kind of grows on you doesn't he? Kind of like skin on macaroni and cheese...bugger.

REGINAROADIE

After seeing the first ep of the second season of DOCTOR WHO, I downloaded the entire second season off BitTorrents (currently going through season 2 of BSG) and went through it.

And as much as I was concerned about David Tennant taking voer Chris Eccleston, I have to say that I really enjoy this Doctor. For some reason, he seems a bit more livelier and more energetic than Chris. And I love the bug eyes.

I loved the entire second season. Especially the final two parter. Don't want to spoil it for those who havn't seen it, but lets just say that while it does do a sleight of hand so that Rose can return, it still breaks your heart to see The Doctor by himself. But the last few seconds totally redeems the ep so that when the credits roll, your confused as all Hell, but laughing your ass off as well.

Trash talk between a Cyberman and a Dalek. It doesn't get any better than that.

I cant help it. I love David Tennant becuase he's so.... goofy. Plus, his character seems to have more emotion... Am I the only one who notices that he falls in love in almost EVERY episode... and Rose is jealous?

I thought that Tennant was excellent as The Doctor. At first, I didn't like him, I felt that no one could replace Ecclestone. But after a few episodes, I was hooked. The humour is brilliant, and I love the 'quirkiness'.

Plus, the Devil episode (cannae remember the name) was crazy.

ROXYFREEFALL

Woman, you are completely off your nut.

I just adore David Tennant. When I found out he was gonna be the Doctor I thought "Hmmmm, mix of Tom Baker and Peter Davison.". Granted, being in the US I didn't get to see him play it till recently but I've seen him in so much else that I just love him as an actor. Now that I've seen him in action as the Doctor, he's definitely lived up to my expectation, and they are pretty damn high seeing as I've been a HUGE Doctor Who fan since I was very young.

I'm enjoying his work. That is probably because I loved him in Masterpiece Theatre's "Casanova" and because I've never seen any of the previous doc's episodes. "Class Reunion" was the first time I'd watched this show.
