I know it's nothing close to scifi, but I bet there are others like me who got started on it because it was after Heroes. I am really stuck on this show. I call it Mommy's Soap Opera.

I wish they could use the same storytelling gimmicks for a more positive show. I have such a sense of doom about the whole thing. You know these people are just screwing up their lives.

8:00 comes..... I place my butt in my chair, click on the tv and get lost for an hour on my Heroes and all their crazy antics. 9:00 comes, I turn off the tv and go straight to the Heroes forums online.

Maybe someone else will come along and discuss. Btw, no need to duck, we all have our likes and dislikes. Makes us human.

I don’t watch it, but with the season finale of Rome, I’m looking for a new show to take its place. I only watch a set number of shows every week. I hadn’t really considered the Black Donnelley’s since it seems like a show about a bunch of drunk Irishmen, sort of playing off the same kinds of stereotypes that the Sopranos does. Doesn't look like something that would appeal to me, on the surface anyway, but if someone made a strong enough case for it, I might give it a try.

Now Rome, that was an awesome show. I couldn’t get enough of it.

This show is great!

My one prediction:

All of this is compeletely fabricated by Johnny Icecream. Maybe he knew four brothers growing up, but none of this stuff ever happened. He's a pathological liar.

The reason I think this is because in the first episode when the FEDs are asking about the bodies, and he's through telling them about how the Donnelly's killed the Italian and Irish bosses and the italian goons, he tells the FEDs he didn't know what happened to the bodies. He said the Italians must have cleaned them up.

Then, in about the 3rd or 4th episode, the entire story is centered around the funerals of the Irish and Italian bosses, who supposedly the italians had just cleaned up.

This isn't very noticible when you're watching the show in 1 hour blocks, but he's lying about this story as if he were writing a 1 hour TV show which reset itself at the end of each episode. I don't consider this a flaw of the show... just another hint that Johnny is completely full of crap and lives his life that way.

I'd rather be watching Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip at that time, but it seems that NBC isn't really giving me the option. I'm afraid I haven't given Black Donnely's a chance just for that reason.

This is a really good show with really interesting characters in absorbing situations. Real and not gimmicky slick like the Matt Perry/Sorkin show. I'm super picky about the time I give up to the boob tube-so I'm very much surprised when a show wins me over like this one has. It also doesn't hurt that Olivia Fox is super hot in a 'older sister version of Summer Glau' kind of way.

"Studio 60" and "The Black Donnellys" are both very good shows with good writing.

But their ratings aren't great, people aren't giving these shows the time of day.

Pretty soon they'll both end up like "Firefly" and "Tru Calling".

While crap like "According to Jim" is still around.

Is there no justice in the world.

Well, would you rather have "Firefly" or "According to Jim".

If you put "Jim" up against most of the cancelled shows you'll find most of them are better.

And I wasn't putting down Jim just his show, it's not funny.

No worries. It took them 10 years to finally get me to watch Seinfeld, and that is a pretty good citcom. I can't believe I even like the Black Donnellys. I loathe TV shows on the big 3. I can't even think of the last TV show I've watched on any of them other than this show, not even Saturday Night Live since around the time Hartman died. Never would have even heard about it since I don't have TV guide and I don't watch the networks and see ads for more of thier shows. I got lucky and somebody at work mentioned how good it was.

I stand by my comment about El Principal. Jim could kick some ass back in the day.

You damn kids and your newfangled technology. And to think I spent all of these years building up an immunity to Mace. All for naught.....

Oh well... guess I'd best get out the hairdryer and take a bath. Next time you better set that stun gun to kill if you want to illicit even a ticklish giggle out of me with that little toy.

Jack, I like your theory. And when I think about the series with that in mind I can see more little instances of it. Things that Joey Ice Cream could not possibly know for himself, so he must be inventing the story as it goes along.

Everyone has seen the episode that is only online, right? It's pretty important to the story line.

I am just amazed that fluffy crap like According to Jim can last, and friggin King of Queens can last 9 damn years, while shows that actually HAVE artistic merit aren't even given a chance to succeed. Sad statement on the majority of the American TV audience.

THANK YOU!!!!

I already made this argument, but it's nice to see that I'm not the only one that notices.

Didn't know about the online episode, I'll have to check it out.

My favorite line from last night's episode:

Joey Ice Cream says, "I think I missed a spot. Over THERE." Heh.

Last night's ep was pretty painful. I'm getting so stressed over this stupid television show that I now wish I'd never started watching it, but of course I can't stop now. The only thing that helps is keeping Jack's theory in mind.

Here's a direct link (if I did this right) to the Missing Episode (which evidently did not pass the network censors).

Sorry to burst your bubble man, but that series ended about two years ago. And I was certainly one of the most pissed off about it. It's bad enough they ended it, but to do it on a cliffhanger (and not even a decent one, like Angel)? There's no justice on TV.
