Star Trek os, UFO, Space 1999, Babylon 5, SG1, and Firefly are the best written scifi shows in tv history. Sexy, adventurous, action, and above all manly. But we have like changes in writing kinda lecturous. I watched enterprise travis fired a torpedo and destroyed a klingon ship. "Oh I hope I don't have to do that to many times" come on their Klingons. In Next generation and enterprise how animals are sensitin beings come on their hamburgers. SG1 which I love but the episode pertain to post 9/11 Bush admininstration thing. Of course Beau Bridges and his family are the hollywood liberal types. Nice little bronze head of that creep JFK. They changed Hans Solo getting the jump on Gweedo. Went to killing robots in the next movies. Then bladrunner director change his story Decker being human to a robot. We need another type of Captain Kirk conquering space by throwing his seed on every planet he discovered. Now those pirates on the firefly transport would just kill people like clay pidgeons. I miss that. We need Firefly back for good tv.

Hrm. While the post was only somewhat readable, the message was clear.

Where are the James T. Frikkin' Kirks, romancing every moon princess and naive-but-inquisitive tavern girl from here to the Andromeda galaxy and picking fights with every ultra-strong humanoid because of the way they looked at his shipmates? Where's the politically-incorrect cultural stereotypes populating our starships? Nuclear wessels, anyone?

Where are the scoundrels, the brigands, the badguys you love to hate for their over-the-top evilness? Subtlety is good, but, when you don't even know who's on what side anymore, and there are more gray areas than an incest-abortion, it doesn't always make for good television, let alone good Sci-fi.

Barring Firefly (which isn't even on the air anymore!) and a few choice shows from various networks, it seems that nobody knows how to make good television anymore. The writers are simply rehashing old ideas and smooshing their characters into the previous situations.

The only shows I've really enjoyed in the past decade have been The Invisible Man, Firefly, Stargate SG-1, Farscape, Scrubs, and Cowboy Bebop. All have had a unique style of writing, interesting characters, and a sense that these characters could be people you know. Maybe even you, if you were in those situations.

Anyhoo, that's my two cents on the decline of modern entertainment.
