I just recently re-watched Alien Resurrection and it ran better than when I 1st watched it... I thought it was doing pretty well until really 'that' bizarre Alien hybrid design. Ultimately I think this did ruin it for me. Well that and Ryder's dreadful acting. I thought it had some great Sci-fi moments, the Aliens under medical observation was superb, the Ripley/Alien blend and the observation on cloning was a wonderful gaze at the ethics of the procedure. Ron Perlman was brilliant and the underwater chase was new and fresh for the Alien series.

It was also, as a Whedon fan, very interesting observing the characters of the Betty and just what he was creating with the interaction of the characters.

Any thoughts all these years later?

I saw it at Grauman's Chinese, and the cinematography, especially during the first half, just took my breath away!

Yeah it is pretty stunning isn't it. The camera work is exceptional. No I must admit it really has gone up in my estimation.

Shame the creature works let it down.

That was the kicker for me too, hated the alien hybrid.

Not a big Winnona Ryder fan either.

Has anyone ever seen Ron Pearlman and Adam Baldwin in the same room??

I'm just askin'...

I always thought it was pretty good, well, as good as a sequel to the crappy third one could have been.............
But the CGI aliens bugged me- still, way better than AVP.

Well, when you see a movie at Grauman's Chinese, EVERYTHING's impressive!

I saw all three Matrix movies there (opening day crowds), and loved 'em all!

CGI always bugs me. King Kong for example. Am I to gather 'C' that you didn't enjoy the third instalment of the Aliens series ? Flawed as it was I thought the premise was very interesting.

Sadly, no.
Ticket prices being what they are, I mostly wait for movies to hit the 'Under $10' bin at the used DVD store these days.

But here's some info on the place.

Y'know, I'd actually pay money to see that.

Not a big CGI fan here either.

You know, I cheered when Johner capped that spider, hate the damned things myself.

Jayne is local thug made good, and for what he is, upwardly mobile in a crafty sorta fashion...

Johner is ex-military come down in the world and on hard times.

Where they are, took very different paths to get there and as such defines them very differently if you look closely.

Jayne's a fairly happy dude, such as his greed and ambition will let him be, but he's looking outward and upward, you see, while Johner is more pissed and miserable, and more internally reflecting in a swamp of bitterness.

Johner is way closer to burnout than Jayne, and it shows - and while their means and methods are very similar, the motivations behind them are entirely different.

Just thinkin out loud on it a bit...

That bein said, put me down for a Johner/Jayne duo too, that'd kick butt, not to mention provide tons of character development fodder for a GOOD artist, as opposed to Hollywood.

As a movie, it was great. Really creeped me out.
As an ALIEN movie, it was too much with the depressing, and had a major downer ending, and as such, sucked for me, anyway.

No kill Ripley Chrisisall

Hmm Interesting 'C' I.N.T.E.R.E.S.T.I.N.G..... I'd have thought that would have appealed to your hero/heroine sensibilites, I was wrong on that call.

The first Alien had some action, the second was ALL OUT action, then the third was creepy death scenes...I guess I'm a typical American that way; I wanna see the bad guys blow up...

Ok way I see it.

First one is about the tension, the being hunted... About the most Primeval of human fears.

The Second well if I'm brutally honest it's Cameron's wet dream. Sorry not a fan of the gun-play but give him his dues he put his heart and soul into making it as good as he could, so fair play to him.

Third one: Difficult from conception to completion but Fincher HAD to try something different or else the Alien would lose credibility. His answer to make Ripley immortal. Allow her to give Life to everyone else buy killing herself and the Alien too. Poetic.

The forth... Undid all the third had done and resurrected the first two. Then destroyed itself.

Alien (spit) vs Predator (spit) - waste of good film stock! Now I hear there's an Alien vs Predator II - why? What can they do with this I wonder.

It could redeem its predecessor and set it so that there are no humans at all. That'd make a good film.

Oh dear... A late lament from an insomnious somnambulist... Must rest now, drift into the arms of Morpheus.... good night.....

GRIZWALD

Went back and watched it while I did the ironing this afternoon.

Fun flick, not on a par with the others, but Sigourney Weaver obviously had a good time with it.
