Upcoming films by Finn mac Cumhal

I'm personally most looking forward to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Don't care what ya say about the length of the title that's going to be the best if not one of the top five best movies of the year, There's no other series of movies from my childhood that made such an impression on me. I actually told my mother when I was three I wanted to be an archaeologist or a museum curator when I grow up. So you can see how I would love these movies. Kinda sad though when I grew up enough to realize archaeologist don't do all the stuff Indy does.

I hadn't heard The Hobbit was a go. I did heard it may be a go but I don't know if there's been official word yet. Oh well either way I seriously doubt it will be a 2008 movie. More like late 2009 or 2010, as long as it comes out before 2012 and the end of the world I'm fine. I'm one of those that would prefer a two parter. I know it was one book but if they did one it would be insanely long and we'd get the "I GOTTA PEE" complaints throughout the last 20 minutes like with "Return of the King". I have no problem with long movies it's just most people seem too these days.

EDIT: Ok never mind I just read the news about the Hobbit. I am SOOOOOO excited.

I think Jumper looks very interesting, and I love the cast.
The new Batman, and isn't the 4th Terminator coming?
Indy sounds good.
Saw trailer for Cloverfield, looks interesting.
Since Jewel is in Tribe, that's on my list.
If 10,000 comes out (sequel to 300) in 08, I gotta see it.

I'll be going to see Cloverfield with my Dad. Main reason is he's a Trekkie but doesn't really get into the whole internet forums and such so he doesn't know the first Star Trek trailer will be attached to Cloverfield. I figured he'll like the movie and love the trailer. Besides Cloverfield looks interesting and even if it's not great I'd bet it's going to be a must see.

Oh also I remember hearing a few months back that a production company bought the Grumman Goose from the Donald P. Belisario TV series "Tales of the Gold Monkey". I am seriously hoping that means a movie adaptation of the show or an adaptation of the book "Where is Joe Merchant" which was written by the amazing Jimmy Buffett. Either one of those could make for one really good movie. I never watched the show. I wasn't even born when that show aired but my Dad loved it.

Ok I've seen National Treasure: Book of Secrets and it wasn't bad. Honestly I think it's getting a bad rap with the critics, though it was a bit goofier and a few points felt just a bit silly.

There was however a trailer for an upcoming film that I felt looked very interesting. Wall-E looks like it might be one amazing movie. I watched the teaser online a few months ago and was slightly impressed but the full trailer was very intriguing. The premise seems to be a robot's search for the meaning of it's existence. Seems to take place hundreds of years in the future on what appears to be an Earth devoid of humans and possibly any other functioning robot. It says Wall-E had been alone for like 700 years or something. I will defiantly be in the theaters for this one and next to The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull it's the movie I am most looking forward to in 2008.

And Serenity is a title that so obviously appealed to everyone. Hey if it isn't your thing then it isn't your thing. You obviously haven't seen the pics released of Harrison Ford in costume, which look amazing as he still does nearly all his stunts. Yes he's old but he's still in way better shape than I'd bet half of us sitting here on our fat or bony arses posting movie gossip are. Jongstraw stay off a thread if you don't have anything constructive to say. Back in the early days of film titles were usually longer than they are these days, on average. I mean seriously look at the Bond titles, yes some are fairly short but then you get others that are not so much. There are many more examples if you had the sense to look. Also who the heck says "Jumps the shark" anymore... I'd say the phrase did just that about twenty years ago.

Also Harrison Ford, like Sean Connery and possibly even Nathan Fillion, will likely be a sex symbol, even to much younger women, well into their 70s. Believe me, these guys are never not getting some.

Seriously impressive CGI isn't it? I'm sure this movie is going to get panned by half the critics out there but it seems the type of film only folks with more than a few brain cells devoted to intelligent thought could grasp.

I'm not super excited about The Incredible Hulk, only incarnation I've ever even remotely liked was the TV series and that was mainly because of Bill Bixby. Main reason I'm interested in this is alot of folks have compared Edward Nortons portrayal to Bixbys so I'll defiantly be watching the DVD if not going to the theater.

Cloverfield seems to be only capable of being complete and utter crap or an interesting artistic film. Doubt it will be great but who knows. I've heard the director had never even seen Blair Witch, which is defiantly a good film to not watch, so it might do well. Also remember Joss went for the handheld/found footage style for Firefly and look how well that was done. The style for this movie is undoubtedly different but the shaky cam look can do well.

I'll watch the hobbit no matter what they decide to do. A second film linking the LOTR to the Hobbit might not be a good idea. I know quite a bit about Tolkiens writings, I've been studying him for about seven years now and reading his works since I was eight years old. If they can get a cohesive story out of that time then I say go for it. I can say I would be seriously against even Jackson doing a film based off the Quenta Silmarillion, atleast as far as the story of Luthien and Beren. It would be too painful if they messed up even a little.

I've yet to see the trailer for Jumper. I've been having alot of trouble with my connection lately and can't stay connected for more that an hour...

Anyway the concept sounds interesting but I'm a bit wary about the fact they cast such a iffy actor in the lead. I've never seen anything Hayden Christensen's ever done that even hinted he could act. Oh well time will tell, I've seen other actors I felt were horrible or just not very skilled turn out great much later in their career. I'll probably wait until it hits the $3.00 a seat theater either way.

As am I. Hopefully they can keep to the core ideals and feeling of the books. It would be a shame if they couldn't do them justice.

I am a major believer in the huge differences between film and other forms of media. I KNOW the films will be different, it all depends on what sort of film they make and if they decide to just dumb it down for the Reality TV and McDonalds crowd.
