Am I the only one who thought the last Stargate-Atlantis episode, "Be All My Sins Remembered" (04E11) was one of the best ever aired? Apart from the special effects, which for some reason really appealed to me this time, I thought the stuff with Fran, the replicated, erm, replicator, was very good. I especially liked how they avoided the cliche of how, once a sentient being, it can no longer be used as a weapon/virus; like how they spared The Borg "Hue" (ST:TNG). The dialogue was refreshing and bordering on sheer brilliance:

Fran: "This is quite exciting, isn't it? (...) I quite look forward to it."
McKay: "You do?"
Fran: "One always wishes to fulfill one's purpose."

(...)

McKay: "It's just... you're gonna cease to be."
Fran: "Yes?"
McKay: "Well, uhm, I just imagined you rather keep being... than not."

Cute as a button, endowed with speech and self-awareness, and given great lines to speak, the greatest of which is in my tag below.

LWAVES

You are not alone.

Although not to be picky but your thread title could be a little clearer as to what show you are talking about. I didn't get it until I read your post and others may come in who haven't seen it and be spoiled. Just a suggestion.

Back on topic.

I thought this too was a great episode.
As you said the battle scenes were great and looked top notch but it was definitely Fren who stole the show.

Select to view spoiler:

It could have gone down such a mundane route where she decided that she didn't want to 'die' and they have to persuade her it's the right thing. But they didn't and it was all the better for it.
A machine doing exactly what it was supposed to.

And Ronin showing that he really did care for someone was a nice bit. He and Teyla make a nice duo as the outsiders to the Earth humans.

Also whilst it was predictable that the replicators weren't completely gone it was a great twist to have Elizabeth appear at the end.

And yes there was some great dialogue between her and Rodders. He almost seemed surprised by her responses.

"I don't believe in suicide, but if you'd like to try it it might cheer me up to watch."

STRANGEBIRD

Right here!

I agree, it was one of the best if not THE best episode of Atlantis to date. Fran was amazing and I hope somehow they bring her back. Maybe Rodney will need a replicator for some other task someday and recreate her. Too soon would seem corny. Maybe next season.

The special effects were also great. They should win an award just for that if not for anything else. Very cool seeing the Wraith ships fighting alongside humans.

I seriously think there's not going to be a resolution to the wraith problem for a few seasons. At least I would hope not. They make a great ally and an amazing enemy. Hopefully we'll be seeing more of John and Rodney's "friend" in future episodes. On either side of the battle. It would be interesting if he ends up rising to great power among the Wraith as a result of his previous alliance with humans. Great actor with enough presence to work under all that make-up and such.

Well here's looking to another great episode tonight!

P.S. I don't know about the rest of you but I'll be watching last weeks episode again tonight before the new one.

SINGATE

Up until now we have mainly seen human form replicators as ruthless killers. What I really liked about Fran is that she comes off as so innocent just like a new born baby. While I enjoyed the dialogue between her and Rodney I find myself more interested in his dealings with his new "partner". The bit about Rodney performing better under pressure and how the wraith could motivate him was hysterical.

Thanks for sayin', Strangebird. :)

Yeah, the cute thing about Fran -- apart from her looks -- is that she can be re-created at will. And you're right, last thing we wanna see is her being summoned like a dea ex machina. But we definitely wanna SEE her again. :) Like Singate says, she's innocent. But not childish. She's fragile, yet not uncertain. And she shot off one great line after another -- and it weren't autofire, either. :) She's truly awesome!

Space battle was kick-ass, too. I read they got their own, inhouse CGI team now; well, it shows! I'm fairly excited. I haven't seen ep 04E12 yet: I have learnt to control myself until I get the HD version (which is usually a few days later). But I can hardly wait.

Ok, what y'all think of my hopelessly cool (ahem) Fran banner? :) Yes, that was a shameless plug. Shoot me! Or... we could talk more. :)

STRANGEBIRD

Very nice Asarian. The exploding replicator home world may have been the single most impressive and believable planet explosion I've ever seen. On the big or small screen. Nice touch adding it between Fran and Rodney. Sorta gets the gist of the story across in short form.

Also thanks. I forgot I needed to get to work adding a couple banners and a new quote to my sig. Not Stargate related but anyway...
