Does that make anybody else feel just a little ambivalent? Like if Joss gets to get these concepts and such out through other vehicles, what use (beside nostalgic love for what might have been) would Joss have for Firefly? I mean, I know he loves the ol' girl...but at the same time, he's not without certain realist tendencies, is he?

Well, as Our Mr. Reynolds would say, you gotta see past what she is, and onto what she can be. :) Firefly was gripping from the first minute, agreed. And fake? Wasn't the lady's first opening line something like: "Nothing here is what it seems?" (boy, if that doesn't jolt Firefly flashbacks...) I think that's part what makes Joss special. At the surface, it may look like something trite and very main-stream: programmable girls for the perfect date, etc. Yawn. But already in the second episode it becomes clear that Joss obviously wants much more with it, and this is not gonna be just a silly show about girl sex toys.
