Didn't know it was available yet. Has it been broadcast anywhere? The dvd will be out next Tuesday but Sci-Fi says they won't air it until next year.

I just assumed it must have been broadcast somewhere.. maybe it got leaked to the net.

Truth be told I'm kinda reticent to get drawn into anything Ron Moore after the way he ended BSG.....

I'm waiting for the DVD. Only download leaked films if I can't get 'em legally.

But I'm looking forward to it. I loves BSG (including the ending), and halfway through the first season, Moore is stepping aside to let Jane Espenson become show-runner.

If I'm a thief, sobeit. I have no intention of buying a dvd, so no sale is lost. I put Eliza up there because I'm not going to get into a DH thread. I just got caught up on heroes. I like Sylar, but could someone kill the petrellis already?

Oh, and ECG, spare me. Filesharing? Really? Scan the posts on this forum sometime. From the random talk of drugs, trafficking, identity fraud, weapons smuggling and illegal modification, anarchy, revolution, even terrorism?? And you're concerned with filesharing. Quaint.

Oh, and for any pathetic fool who thinks that they are supporting art by purchasing dvds, etc: a tiny percentage of the revenue goes to producing the art, paying people salaries, almost all of it goes to line the pockets of MSM fatcats. I think we all agreed a long time ago they were the enemy.

Somewhere on the other side of don't bite the hand that feeds you someone should have written "don't eat from the hand that beats you."

Sorry, just some baggage, ongoing argument with my editor. I just want to watch Caprica to see whether or not it's worth writing for. If *they* care whether or not I download it off the internet, then I already have my answer.

Oh, nice little touching note: The point about Eliza's little photoshoot (nice ratings booster?) was a jab at Joss' holier than thou feminism. I don't believe in any of that PC dren, but then you all know that already. He does, or did, or at least pretended to.

Sorry about the attitude, got a lot on my mind.

I liked it, but I can see a lot of hurdles for it in becoming a success. It's more hard science fiction than fantasy science fiction. Great if you're into the whole family/political drama thing, but can be boring if you're expecting something like Battlestar Galactica.

One of the biggest problem I have with it at the moment is the time line. I'm probably nitpicking, but Caprica is set 58 years before the Fall, which means that there are about a 10 to 18 years period between the time the first Cylon was created and the eventual armistice signed between the colonies and the Cylon rebels.

It is believed that the biomechanical Cylons came into existence during the 40 or so years that they were missing from the 12 colonies. Prior to that the Cylons were just mechanical workers and soldiers.

Should Caprica pull a rabbit out of its hat and create a biomechanical Cylon in the first few episodes, then I'm rescinding my vote.

Wow, lotta mental backflipping to rationalize a crime.

It is - period. Not to say I'm not guilty of it, too, but man up and be honest about it.

Yeah, only a fraction goes to the creators - but that's their living, regardless of what the studio takes. And yeah, the studio takes most of the money - but they paid to make it in the first place, and not as a humanitarian effort.

And you call us pathetic....

A comment from Babylon 5 creator J Michael Straczinski on the matter:

Quote:

First, having talked to distributors, I can tell you straight up that
if a show has had too much online exposure and too many downloads, if
it's too much out there, they won't distribute it because the market
that would want to see it already has. So you're helping to destroy
any chance of a show getting picked up. The logic of "well if I watch
it that'll help to create a market for that show" is a convenient
untruth downloaders tell themselves that has not once ever been
validated. It just never happens. It's just a justification.

Second, when you download a show (and most of the shows that are
downloaded don't fall into the category of "there's no other way to
get it," they're downloads of popular shows and movies, so lets
dispense with THAT bit of nonsense right off the bat...it's not just
that you're denying the producers/distributors of that movie or TV
show the "price" of the DVD (or the commercials not watched). You're
also having a direct impact on the creative people who made that show,
and taking from them as well.

Actors, writers and directors get paid a fee to make a project, and
then they get residuals, which are not a bonus, they are deferred
compensation. If the show does well, they share in that; if the show
tanks, they share the risk. When shows are downloaded free, those
creative people get nothing.

Why should this matter? Residuals are what keeps actors and writers
and directors able to survive the lean periods between jobs, and those
are legion. Those periods can last a year or two sometimes, during
which your ONLY source of revenue is residuals. They help to insure
that the talent pool is available when needed and not out working day
jobs to make ends meet.

Free downloading ultimately destroys the financial structure for
artists of all kinds, and will, if left unchecked, eventually make it
impossible for any artist to make a living doing what they do.

Downloaders think there's no difference between data and
entertainment, that everything should be free. Great, it's free to
YOU. Now, how do you propose paying the people who produce these
shows at the costs of millions of dollars, and the people who need to
put food on the plate when they are getting nothing in return?

It's theft. Sorry. Color it any way you want, it's stealing: by the
law, and by the ethics involved. Everything else you've said is just
justification to cover bad behavior.

Tiny lo-res blurry picture donated by a friend, watched sitting alone hunchbacked at a computer... I produce a TV show and documentaries, with over 3-million free downloads in 2 years. Only NSA and ISPs got paid for that.

Theft is stealing a hi-res film reel from a movie theater, financed with counterfeit money, CIA narcotics and derivative ponzi scams. Mob dont like it when you do that.

How is it stealing if it gets on TV, and I pay $500/year to a cable TV monopoly? Who's doing the stealing? As for legality, 99% of all court cases are illegal theft by Big Brother and its no-bid contractors.

Consider it an import duty to save American jobs in Hollywood for illegal aliens.

When "Hollywood" starts producing Truth documentaries instead of fiction lies and brainwashing, then I'll be happy to invest FRN debt notes or Amerodollars.

Caprica will be released on DVD in just three days and I will watch it when Netflix ships it to me.

I won't lie and say that I have never downloaded anything, but in most cases it was because it really wasn't available to me (the UK version of Life on Mars is still not on Region 1 DVD, although it will be soon), or else a show I normally watch on TV was interrupted by weather bulletins or an actual power outage. I find that no more illegal than the days when friends and I would record and share shows on VHS tapes, especially if we had different cable packages that featured channels someone else did not get. But we were paying high cable bills (and I still am) so I don't consider that theft.

I assume anyone who frequents this forum is a fan of Firefly and/or Serenity. Would you be okay with everyone in the future just downloading the series and movie, denying Joss and all others involved in the production the meager residuals they richly deserve? If your answer to that is yes then I don't suppose there is much point in continuing the debate.

Yes, it's theft to download bootlegged movies/series. Sometimes there's no choice, though. For example, I tried to play by the rules, and wanted to get the official streams for Dollhouse. But guess what? Some overpatriotic Nazi at the network decided that my country, the Netherlands, can't download the Dollhouse stream. So, what do you think happens after that? I give 'em a big 'Fuck you!' up their pigu, and download it elsewhere, easy-peasy, all in HD, sans the endless, ridiculous commercial breaks you Americans have become conditioned to take for granted. Is it theft? Sure. But as the guy in A.I. said: "Rembember, you killed me first."

I still pre-ordered the Dollhouse Blu-Ray; I am, after all, a decent chap. :) But don't give me this "You inferior Europeans can't watch it yet" crap, because then I answer, in the words of my generation, "Yes, we can!"

P.S. Eliza (who wasn't in it; let alone nekkid) is a lot prettier than Zoe.

I sample TV shows through downloading them.. if they are good, like Firefly, then I usually buy the DVD's when they come out(and Blu-ray with Firefly). With so much crap being out there, this is the only way to effectively sift through it all to find the gems. The shows I like get legally purchased, and I dont spend a cent on the crap shows.

Wasn't this supposed to be about a pilot episode?

If it's just going to be another snipe fest about the legality and ethics of downloading could we please rename it so that people aren't lured in only to discover there is almost no correlation between the content and the title?

If not, could those wanting to fight it out make a whole new thread for that express purpose and go have at it?

Craprica 50 up, 1 down love it hate it

urbandictionary

Craprica is a contemptuous reference to the future TV series ‘Caprica’, a prequel to the canceled sci-fi TV series ‘Battlestar Galactica’. Discriminating science fiction fans expect the prequel to be canceled at the end of its first season.

The prequel is promoted as futuristic and delivering all of the passion, intrigue political backbiting, family conflict, etc. of ‘Battlestar Galactica’.

Disappointed, former fans of ‘Battlestar Galactica’, however, interpret the prequel’s promotions as doublespeak for a soap opera thinly disguised as a science fiction drama. These former fans expect the prequel to including all of the bad science, contrived shipper angst, nihilism, complete disregard for story continuity, and unresolved plot holes of the original show.
After watching what that douche ex machinist did to ‘Battlestar Galactica’, I wouldn’t waste my time watching Craprica.
