Now that the new Man of Steel has been minted by Bryan Singer, one of the remaining casting mysteries for the new SUPERMAN film is: who will play Lois Lane?

This new scooper claims to know who it's down to and told us the six actresses that are supposedly on the callback list. We know the ID of our scooper and they also told us where (in a roundabout fashion) that they heard this info from and they claim it comes from a reliable contact of theirs. Three of the names mentioned on the list have been referred to on other websites, so perhaps the scooper is also tapped into the same source that these other reports are originating from. For now, take it with a grain of salt as we don't have a prior history with our new pal -- but if it turns out that the new Lois does indeed comes from this list, then we've got a new contact that has earned our trust.

According to the scooper, these six actresses are presently frontrunners for the part of Lois Lane in SUPERMAN. In alphabetical order they are:

Mischa Barton (THE O.C.)

Charisma Carpenter (ANGEL)

Mia Kirshner (THE CROW: CITY OF ANGELS)

Evangeline Lilly (LOST)

Natalie Portman (STAR WARS: ATTACK OF THE CLONES)

Keri Russell (FELICITY)

We've seen three of the actresses mentioned before. Barton and Portman have been both linked as being a possible Lois for a number of months now, and two days ago the movie website JoBlo.com was the first to report Evangeline Lilly as another candidate. That site's source also told them that Singer had narrowed the short list down to four names, two less than what we were told it stands at.

Let's see where it goes from here.

For reference.

I thought Charisma was in the running to play Wonder Woman or something? Anyway, of the 6 candidates:

Mischa Barton
I hope she doesn't get picked. I don't watch The O.C. so I don't know if she's a good actor or not, but the only reason she would be cast is to capture the teen audience. "OMG, it's the girl from the O.C.! I have to see this movie!" Also, isn't Mischa Barton, like, 19. That's kind of young, isn't it?

Charisma Carpenter
Like I said above, I thought Charisma was trying out for the role of Wonder Woman but that could have been rumour. I wouldn't mind seeing Charisma as Lois. This could be Angel bias coming through, but she's a good actor and deserves a break into movies. Since I have never heard of the actor casted as Superman, my guess the producers might do the same for the role of Lois

Mia Kirshner
Yeah, never heard of her or seen her stuff, so moving on...

Evangeline Lilly
She would be my second choice. Relatively unknown, good actor from what I've seen from watching Lost.

Natalie Portman
I don't mind Natalie Portman, loved her in The Professional, but she would probably be more stunt casting like The O.C. chick. I'm sort of undecided on her.

Keri Russell
What has Keri Russell done since the end of Felicity? Plus she doesn't strike me as the Lois Lane type, but hey, I never watched her show so I really can't judge.

So yeah, Charisma or Evangeline Lilly. Amy Acker would be great, too.

Ditto. As she showed in the last season of Angel, Amy is a better actress than all those others put together.

Serenity must come first, but I can see Morena B. playing a great Lois Lane.

Don't get me wrong. I love Morena and think she is a magnificient actress, but she might be a little too exotic looking for Lois Lane. I'd choose either Evangeline Lilly or Amy Acker. Or maybe Mia Kirshner.

I read this on IMDB the other day ...

Superman Finally Found
Director Bryan Singer has finally ended his quest to find an aspiring star capable of transporting Superman into the 21st century - he's settled on little known actor Brandon Routh. X-Men film-maker Singer signed up to direct Superman Returns in the summer and announced he was searching for an unknown actor to fill the Man of Steel's red boots - a role made famous by the late Christopher Reeve. And he deems 25-year-old Routh - whose resume is limited to a number of appearances in TV shows like Will & Grace - the perfect choice to reprise the comic book role, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper. Meanwhile, The OC star Mischa Barton and Topher Grace from That '70s Show are also reportedly in negotiations to play Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen respectively.
