Some new series on TV last week.

Emergence was on Tuesday night, and seems to be the only Sci-Fi entry among new shows.

Good cast, and entertaining. Might be similar to Heroes, and recent miniseries like Crossing or that Believe show. I have not yet conjured out where the story is going, or what the answer is to the mystery.
Maybe a little River in there, not enough info yet to know.

Stumptown was on Wednesday, pretty good with Cobie Smulders, Michael Ealy.

Evil was Thursday. Very good, but I don't consider it Sci-Fi - but Joss probably would call it that. Although I sometimes got a vibe of Lucifer, I felt it more like a detective show, ala Sherlock, but similar to X-Files and Constantine, maybe films like Priest or Exorcist. Very good pilot episode.

The show I had forgotten to mention was Prodigal Son. Which is on Mondays now.
The title character is the son of a Serial Killer, and this gives him some specific perspective of some crimes. He also seems to have some special visions or perceptions involved as well. This father/son realtionship may be akin to Silence of The Lambs, with the son being reluctant to interact with the father.
Some folk might find this weird. But, much like the vast majority of Hollywood horror characters being based upon Ed Gein, essentially all of these Hollywood Profilers are all based upon the work of the one FBI Agent who was the only (or maybe first) person allowed to interview Ed Gein while he resided at Mendota Mental Health Institution.
The FBI Agent was John E. Douglas, the autobiographical book is Mindhunter.
So this does make perfect sense to me.
The supernatural perceptions portion of this character's story seem to be what Joss would call Sci-Fi - similar to River's abilities. I have not seen a clear display of what they are trying to convey, but these abilities may be what I consider to be non-fictional.

Evil includes alumns of Person Of Interest Michael Emerson and Boris McGiver, plus Mike Colter and Kurt Fuller from The Good Wife.
I really like it so far, but the Emerson character may prove irritating.

So the shows I am interested in are all on 4 separate nights. Other new shows seem like just SJW pablum. Like some female minority airhead All Rise.

Are the networks in detente? All getting along, sharing the prime time slots instead of competing? I recall often being forced to choose, to decide which of the competing networks I would watch. Now this seems down to Bull/Good Doctor, and whatever New Amsterdam is going to be up against - haven't found the new New Amsterdam shows yet.

I keep forgetting to mention that Tantoo Cardinal has been on Stumptown. With a fairly pivotal character.
At first it seemed she would only be on the Pilot and following episode, but she has turned up on every episode so far, and it looks like she will continue for a bit, at least with the current story arc and case load.

So this is a network show, huh?

I was looking for it on Amazon, and instead started re-watching The Lost Room.

Man, that 1st ep was good.

Of the 4 new shows mentioned (Emergence, Prodigal Son Stumptown, Evil), I am enjoying Emergence and Evil most.
Evil is pulling ahead.

Let me know when any network show has dinosaurs. Dinosaurs of the non-avian variety.

Or Jessica Alba.

Thanks.

Good show so far. And it’s got Turkleton!! Donald Faison from Scrubs.

( not a fan of how jo and Alex both start bickering over the most trivial of nonsense. We get it , they're divorced and we must introduce tension... ugh )

Piper seems a bit like Elle ( Stranger Things ) , or River.

Dinosaur update.

Last night there were dinosaurs stowed away in the Runaway Backpack.

Also, I keep forgetting to mention the past few weeks, I was getting a Humans vibe.

This is all about Emergence.

Now isn’t that funny, a small stash of dinosaurs in the backpack. Like Firefly, this has the makings of a great TV show. Hope I didn’t jinx it.

However, I’m a bit annoyed at Jo’s lack of proactive action here. She’s supposed to be a cop, and they are supposed to piece things together while also being able to put on a good poker face. I get that she is conflicted, but at some point she’s has to fish or cut bait. She either has to be all in and convince Piper that everything is gonna be OK, or she is going to end up getting herself and everybody else she cares about hurt or killed. She knows what Piper can do now, but her indecisiveness is only setting up things to get worse.

And speaking of Piper, all I can say is give her an English accent and put her in a dress with a ponytail… Tomorrowland.

Last night was another Stumptown.

The episode gave me a familiar tingle. By the halfway mark in the episode, our heroine was beat down, with dismal hopes of improvement. Much like a few of the episodes of Firefly.

It has been a while since I have sensed that much dread in a TV story, other than when I watch Firefly DVDs - and even then, since we know the episodes so well, we now take the hits with a bit of nonchalance on the 50th viewing.

Stumptown is not exactly episodic, but has an arc, and last night's episode was essentially a continuation of the prior episode. To get this sense from the story, one need only watch these 2 recent eps, not really the whole series so far.

Although Stumptown is not Sci-Fi, I still look forward to further episodes of this caliber.

Tonight is Evil. With the upswing in quality of episodes from Rookie, Prodigal Son, Emergence, and Stumptown, I am looking forward to similar from Evil, which has been my favorite show so far.
I neglected to mention that last week's episode of Evil had the first time when Emerson's annoying character finally got a little of what was coming. I may have been trying to avoid SPOILER, but it was satisfying for me to watch.

Still need to catch up on the last Emergence ep. I've hung in so far, but this is leading to subverted expectations realm.

So the 10 yr old girl is fully AI, completely manufactured ? Seems like. She's apparently not a kid w/ powers, like 11 in Stranger Things.

So she's like a Cylon skin job. Or maybe a T-800, real on the outside, fake on the inside... where are they going to draw the line ? IDK, but if they want another season of this, something is gonna have to happen to the girl. Either she dies, or is taken away, or possibly another one gets loose... they can't just keep the status quo. Least, I hope not.

Hey RapKnight, did you get a message from me?

Regarding this thread topic, I fell of the Emergence train a bit ago - Tuesday night are just killer for me in my current schedule.

But Evil was really picking up my interest, until the episode a week before Thanksgiving. That episode was the worst, lazy scriptwriting if that. Incredibly lame.

I hope that is not their new direction, they should be able to recover from that clunker.

Regarding that All Rise mess that I mentioned somewhere, that dreck makes my skin crawl just seeing the trailers - and they insist on forcing "extended previews" of it over and over, despite their lame SJW ratings and deserved dismal performance. Everything that is wrong with TV, right there. I'm surprised it's not produced by Morgan Freeman and Oprah.

Sorry for the delay- yes, and thanks!

Caught up w/ Emergence , after the delay. Not crazy with how they seemingly flipped Piper, but hopefully we'll get some sort of payoff in the last 2 eps.

Have been too busy the past 7 weeks to catch more episodes, but watched one last night. Don't know if it was a repeat.

Still recognized most of the characters.

But Hey!! There is Enver Gjokaj from Dollhouse. And now I notice he was on Rookie as well this past year.

A little hisheartening that I was able to keep up with most of it, after missing 7 weeks. Like not so much character change, more like soap opera.

Looked for Stumptown on Wed, but I think there was some Royals thing going on.

Caught another Evil last night, for the first time in 7 weeks. Not sure if it was a repeat or not. It seemed to be doing well, not the lame stuff from that Thanksgiving episode. Now winding it's way into conspiracy territory - quite inventive I think. Not sure where it is going yet, but I like it. Still, Emerson has the most annoying character - and it seems he's merely a fly in the ointment at this point.

Caught Stumptown last night. Seems it was the end of a story arc, or maybe was 2nd of a 2-parter.

Weird that it would get that much interruption from The Royals show.

I enjoyed it, some twists which made me recall Firefly.

And more Tantoo Cardinal.

I went to watch Evil on Thursday night, but it seems replaced by some woke show called Tommy.

But indications are that Evil has a 2nd season. Just no word on when it will air. Or the repeats of the 7 weeks I missed.

Looked for Emergence again last not - no joy.

Looks like nothing for me to watch on Tuesday nights again.

And I haven't been able to find Rookie recently.

Hope to catch Stumptown tonight.

Emergence and Vikings are done for the season. Vikings is taking a weird ' mid season ' break, which always throws me for a loop when shows do that because I can't keep up with when they start up again.

Truly not much on now. so books and a deeper dive into Amazon or YouTube may be in order.
