Angel had not gotten his own show? Did taking away Angel and Cordellia weaken Buffy? Was Joss taking too much on, especially with Firefly too?

What if -?

I don't think the loss of Angel really hurt Buffy (the series, that is) at all, although Cordy's ability to poke holes in everyone's sense of self-importance may have been missed, hence Anya. Still, as a fan of both, it just wouldn't work if Cordelia would have stayed in Sunnydale - too 90210.

But Joss's divided attentions probably hurt Buffy, especially if you're of the mind that series took a nose dive sometime after season 3.

no, it would have been a better show had they been able to do a few more cross-overs though...

It would have been cool if Giles had come to Los Angeles at some point - I would especially liked to have seen he and Wesley cross paths sometime in season 4.

well personally I never felt that there was much wrong with the ending of Buffy...
I might not have chosen to do the stuff they did, but I can find a lot to enjoy in Seasons 6 & 7,
so I'm wouldn't say they were bad.
Have you watched all of 6 & 7 yet, Chrisisall?

Actually I disliked Angel's season 4 more than I disliked Buffy's season 6...
JMPO of course.

I think JW may have taken on too much w/Firefly, Angel & Buffy all on at the same time, but he had some very good writers and co-producers, so I would still say that the shows were better than virtually anything else on TV.

If we had to take a decline in Buffy in order to get Angel, it was worth the sacrifice ;)

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I've haven't seen Buffy season seven yet, and just finished with Angel season three. Although there are a few things in Buffy season six I didn't care for, I still think it was consistently good during all those years. I doubt if Cordelia's character would have been developed in the same way if she had stayed in Sunnydale, and it has surprised me that she has become one of my favorites.

I may be among a minority, but the Buffy/Angel relationship was my least favorite part of the Buffy storylines, and so far I have to say that I like AtS better.

It would have been better without Dawn. Period. I hate the damn angst-y little kid sidekicks shows get saddled with. Come to think of it, I hated Connor too. Thought Joss brought him in just to kill him off.

Im not sure it would of been better, it deffently would of changed a whole lot of what happened in the Buffyverse. So who really knows but fun to think about.
Also Connor was worth bringing in just for that it brought on the dark Wes arch. Though I did like Connor in season 5 of Ats.

I too think Buffy took a nose dive after Season 3. However, Angel was a pretty consistently good show. Only the second half of Season 4 really ever let me down. Maybe the character of Angel is what gave Buffy the spark it had. Then he moved on over to his own show and took his spark with him.

Buffy didn't decline until season 4, but i think it made up for it with season 5, which i think is the best season other then 2. i did find Dawn a bit annoying, but i thought the way she was worked into the cast was great. i also think the show should have ended after 5. it would have been great. it could have just been another story of a slayer, then like all slayers, she dies. i hate seasons 6 and 7 with a passion. it feels tacked on, bringing buffy back and xander gaining like 15 pounds and no giles, or at least not as much. grrr argh, i can't stand it. don't even own them.

Angel on the other hand never disapointed me. i know i'm very much not in the majority in this thinking, but the show never lost me, i was never upset with a single storyline and thought it was a wonderful 5 seasons. although i think of season 5 as the weakest of Ats, because face it, IT IS! and the finale should have been 2 hours.

Again I just have to jump in and say that I feel season six was the best year of all of them. It had real drama (dang I cried a lot in that season) hi-larious villians (the three nerds) naughty sex, and "Once More With Feeling."

It really became a show for adults that year.
