Spike turned out to be the real deal. A real hero who put others (even Buffy) ahead of himself. Really cool and sad, but not our reality. Our Reality sucks. our reality is full of mean, selfish humans who need to get their collective asses kicked though, I doubt that would really do any good seeing that we are so petty and evil and all.

So, I take it that you've FINALLY brought yourself to watch at least season six if not seven? Didn't it all turn out alright just like some of the others have stated?

Yes, I'm done with Buffy. This show seriously put me in an obsessive mode. I ended up watching season 6 and 7 and getting really drunk in the process to the point where I missed my flight to a serious meeting, but I HAD to finish this series...and then I passed out of course after crying the tears of the drunk, which didnt help matters out much. I just woke up and am sporting a hangover and that sinking feeling of responsibilities left undone.

Why did I let this show take over my whole life for the moment? Weird. Now that its over I am left with a empty space in my soul, which I knew would be there waiting for me. I knew I should have stretched this out.

P.S. BTW, Season 6 'Once More With Feeling' was a very interesting episode that was very clever and caught me by surprise.

Season 6 was a total emotional rollercoaster ride. It was dark, sad, pathetic and funny. Season 7 was good, but it jerked me about some, and the ending was happy/sad with a lot of holes in it, but it was good.

BTVS from season 1 to season 7 is the only TV show that I know that had emotionally manipulated me the whole way. I feel as though my brain and my emotions had been violated.

If I had been an 18 year old, I would have never watched BTVS or ANGEL, and maybe even not Firefly because when I was younger, shows like that would not have interested me much. I would have thought them to be hokey, and cheesy, nothing to be taken seriously. I had to be a broken-down 44 years old with no soul, and no future in order to really see the show and get sucked into it. It’s a soap opera, and that's Joss's style of writing and directing.

BTVS is not real life in any shape or form. No one forms friendships like the scoobies do, no group is as tight as that. If you took out the Vampires, Demons, magic and witches and let the show run like that and called the show 'Buffy the Crime fighter' it still wouldn’t be real. All that fighting she does and her hairs still in place. She gets punched all up in the mouth and there are no broken teeth. Buffy and her group get wounds on them that look like they need stitches, and the next day they are healed. They insult each other all over the place and no one gets their feelings hurt.

Did you notice that the cops in BTVS never show up? Except for one episode, but most of the time the cops never show up. Buffy would fight a hoard of demons making a ton of noise, waste a whole block doing it and the cops never show up nor the Fire Department. In real life if that happened the cops would have shown up in every episode. The National Guard would have shown up during the last episode of season 7.

Shows like BTVS and many other shows like it represent how we would like to see ourselves, but in reality we are nothing like those characters and never could be. All the deep love, deep friendships, bounding, and honor in BTVS is Hollywood plain and simple. It’s like a beautiful speech that you would hear a politician deliver. It’s beautiful, you want it to be true, but you know it really isn’t.

Suspension of disbelief? I did that and I got into the show and enjoyed it and looked forward to watching it every night. I just wanted to point out all that other stuff.

KWICKO

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

The implication in the show was that the cops, the mayor, Principal Snyder, and others in positions of authority were actually in cahoots with the evil forces of the Hellmouth. At least, that's what I got out of it the one time the cops showed up, when the mayor told them to call it "Gang-related. You know, PCP." It just always felt like anyone who was anyone in Sunnydale knew about, embraced, and occasionally collaborated with the evil forces.

Glad you got through it in one piece. It's funny - you KNOW you're being played, but you're being played by an absolute master, so it makes it fun to just go with it and see where it takes you next. It's a hell of a wild ride, huh?

I have to admit that there was a point in season 4 and an episode in season 6 and 7 that made me seriously want to have Joss shot, but I got over that.

I completely agree! Also, I guess you and I differ somewhat when it comes to Sci-fi shows, I cought Buffy when I was about 15 and LOVED IT, I never could watch Angel, though I REALLY wanted to! Needless to say, Firefly was an INSTANT hook for me.

I agree that heros don't exist in the real world,
and Buffy's story is the epic mythic journey of the true hero...
but that is why it is inspiring.

with the metaphor and the great themes of love and loss and loyalty.

RL can never be that wonderful, but since the beginning of time people have loved having stories that were were bigger than life.

And Joss manages to do it with a young woman at the heart of the story, as the hero....

Anyway, I'm really glad you did watch Seasons 6 and 7!
