MIRAMEL

i just started watching buffy a week or so ago, i'm liking it so far (its just so very joss!) and i had a couple questions, so if anyone ahs answers and wouldnt mind sharing them i'd be obliged.
k, firstly just a technicle question: i grok that there are seven seasons 'o buffy, but i also grok that there are x seasons of angel: what order to they take place/aught they to be watched in?

secondly, somehting i've been wondering about: this seems very much like it could be the sort of thing the viewer is just supposed to not think about (thats why they call it fiction) so if that's the case just tell me to shush and i will ;) but i was wondering if there were theorys: why the off-hand attitude towards death? i'm almost done w/ the first season and quite a number of students have died; sure, everyone's sad when it happened, but is it really the case that after, what, 3 or 4 student deaths no parents seem particularly concerned? it just seems like some folk would pull there kids out and ahve them go to a safer school. also, kinda hand in hand w/ that, what happened before buffy? it seems she's killing some sort of vampire or deamon every episode, so before she showed up, did they just run amock?

There are 7 seasons of Buffy and 5 seasons of Angel.

Watch Buffy upto the end of season 3. Then for each ep after that watch a Buffy then an Angel right afterward, rinse, repeat. The reason is that there are several cross-overs and the order in which they originally aired was Buffy in one hour, then Angel in the next.

If monsters ran around in your town your entire life and killed people all the time, it'd be the norm, not the exception.

The show focuses on the students, so we don't know if the parents are really up in arms or not. But, given the above, I'd think that there is reason for them not to be. We'd just not see there sorrow, as they'll probably be staying in for a while after the loss of a child.

The town isn't that big; probably the only one. So, the option is 1) stay in school, or 2) move.

And again, the norm thing.

I don't think that they would "run amock". Deamons are stupid but they know that if they cause a real big scene then lots and lots of police/military/etc will move in and spoil the fun. So, I imagine that it would've been worse, but not to the point of chaos.

As an added note, every episode does not translate to every day. In fact, there are several episodes in which the one ep spans several days.

There is the whole fic thing as well. Normal logic does not necessarily apply.

Anyway, hope that helped

Posted this in another thread, but I'll re-post it here, since you asked. This is your guide on the best way to watch the two shows once "Angel" started up (in S4 of "Buffy"):

- Buffy S4 and Angel S1: Watch Episode #1 of Buffy, then #1 of Angel; #2 of Buffy, #2 of Angel, etc., right thru to the end of the season.
- Buffy S5, Angel S2: Same as above.
- Buffy S6, Angel S3: Watch Angel episode #4 ("Carpe Noctem") before Buffy episode #4 ("Flooded"); other than that, it doesn't matter.
- Buffy S7, Angel S4: Watch Buffy episode #17 ("Lies My Parents Told Me") before Angel episode #15 ("Orpheus"), and Angel #15 before Buffy #18 ("Dirty Girls"); watch Angel #22 ("Home") before Buffy #21 ("End of Days").

Just to add to what’s already been said, the population of Sunnydale does seem to be able to shake off all the unusual deaths with surprising ease. However, seasons two and three will also provide some additional information as to why there is so little uproar or community action. There’s definitely some suspension of disbelief involved, but it also makes a bit more sense once you get to the end of season three.

Just in case you're interested, I once asked why every demon seems to be a Black Belt, and the answer came that martial arts originally copied movements from animals, and demons are already in serious touch with their animal natures, hence the chop-socky look to their movements.

I thought that was a cool answer Chrisisall

One of the characters actually jokes about that in the final season.

(while waiting for a new vampire to crawl out of his grave) "But he's new! He might not know all those cool martial arts moves they invariably seem to pick up!"

I'm quoting from memory, but that was pretty much the gist. The show had a lot of fun mocking itself by the seventh season!

I don't know if you've read it (or seen the movie), but Stephen King's It deals with a similar concept. In the story, an ancient, evil being (who calls himself Pennywise The Clown) begins killing children in a small town. However, the adults in the town can't see the monster for what it really is, blaming the deaths on random violence. The main characters call it "The Derry Disease" (Derry being the name of the town they live in). It even affects them once they return to their hometown as adults.

Adults in Sunnydale seem to suffer from a similar affliction. They are either incapable of seeing the problem, or refuse to (I'm betting on the latter). As time goes on though, you'll see that events in Sunnydale get harder and harder to ignore...

Entirely pointy.

In the pilot Giles says,"People tend to rationalize what they can, and forget what they can't." (quoted from memory, might not be exact.)
