(Ok this is the second part in a trilogy of questions on Joss' shows: Buffy, Angel and Firefly.)

As regards Buffy: what direction/plot notions/ character development etc would you have liked to see the show take.

Now Buffy is maybe the most complete show of Joss' world thus far so there's not a great deal that I can think of that I'd have liked to see, except maybe the development, and one or two long story arcs, based around GILES. He never really had a proper relationship in the show and we almost know as much about him at the end as we did in the begining. That maybe could have had more substance, but overall Buffy covered a great deal.

Any thoughts?

Sometimes I think I must be the only person in the world who thinks this, but I would have liked to have seen more of Dawn. Her arc in season five was amazing, and she had so many great moments in the later seasons. I really would have loved to have seen the woman she was becoming and how things worked out for her. And I would have liked to have seen the writers explore the mystery of her origins a bit more.

Dawn is actually the only character I really, really want to see in a spinoff show. Everyone else feels very... complete. Even Giles. Heck, even Faith! With Dawn I always felt there was so much that had been left unexplored.

Hey no y'know I get that.

I would watch the later seasons of Buffy with two friends of mine whom I converted to all of Joss' shows and while they used to HATE Dawn, I felt she was misunderstood. I didn't find her that annoying only a little thin on character. I think given a few more episodes and one or two heroine moments many would have warmed to her, but she was only really ever used to be annoying and/or in trouble...

See, the being annoying thing in season 6 was actually an important part of Buffy's arc. Dawn was Buffy's humanity trying to assert itself, while Spike was her darker slayer side trying to break free. That's why both of them kept at her and at her all season, and it's why Buffy kept swingly wildly from devoting herself to one to absorbing herself with the other.

Even when Buffy spent time with Dawn it was in an effort to silence her (and her own humanity.) But Dawn wouldn't take it lying down. She *knew* Buffy was trying to escape and pointed it out to her a lot. And since facing Dawn meant facing all the horror she'd been through, Buffy kept running away from her. And Dawn kept acting out, expressing the hurt going on in both of them.

It wasn't until Buffy empowered Dawn (and herself) by handing her the sword in 'Grave' that she became a whole person. That's why she was able to crawl out of her grave a second time and smile at the world around her - because this time she had Dawn at her side.

Sorry. I ramble when I'm on the subject of Dawn.

DTH ,that was very well put. I for one love the actress that plays Dawn as I saw her on All My Children when she was on with SMG.She is a very talented young lady and I loved how human and real Dawn was.

How about an Anya the demon years show ? Years of men having vengance taken on them .I could see it now.I really liked Anya.

Wow, well thought out, and I agree.
For my part, I hated Dawn in season 5. I warmed up a little through 6(see above), and came to fully accept and appreciate her in 7.

It's totally up to Joss as far as I'm concerned...except Buffy finally hooks up Xander and Dawn finds online love with Connor!

I would agree with you on this. I liked the way the show ended. I enjoyed all the characters but would have liked to see where Joss would have taken Dawn in a spinoff. I liked her in Ice Princess BTW. It's always great to see these folks getting a chance to show what they can do in different arenas.
