Probably almost since the final episode aired, I'd been wanting to just sit down and marathon thru the entire series in as few days as possible. Well, I finally did it . About 10 days ago I realized I was going to have a window with enough free time to try, so I cleared a couple of minor things off the schedule, and voila: Buffiness! Buffiness to the tune of seven seasons--ALL 144 EPISODES!!--in eight days. For those of you like Joss, who are bad at maths, that's an average of 18 eps per day.

Of course, once I was done, and was sitting there all numb and shell-shocked, I couldn't help but wonder why I'd ever wanted to do such a crazy thing in the first place, but then I realized: I did it because I could! Because it needed to be done! Because the DVDs were crying out to me, desperate for someone brave and worthy to come along and at long last accept the challenge!! (Okay, it's possible I'm still a bit loopy here...)

And believe it or not, if I can ever find six consecutive, completely free days in the future, I just might try the same thing with Angel...

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I was laid up with a broken foot for a while this past fall, and I did a Buffy and Angel marathon. When I got to Season 4 of Buffy I alternated discs with Angel Season 1 and continued that way through the seasons. I think it took me about fifteen or sixteen days, but I can't recall exactly.

America loves a winner!

Good god man, are you insane! Awesome! I went a more traditional, boring route w/ my Buffy project. It's taken me the better part of 6 months ( thanks in part to the bone heads at Blockbuster ) to get through 5 1/2 seaons of Buffy so far. I took sometime off in short spans, here and there, and had hoped to be done by years end. Not to be, but I'm nearly done.

" I did it because I could! Because it needed to be done! " haa haa! Too gorram funny.

People love a happy ending. So every episode, I will explain once again that I don't like people. And then Mal will shoot someone. Someone we like. And their puppy. - Joss

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

Holy... I bow to you, just bow to you. That is amazing! If I had that kind of time I'd be doing the same. What better way to spend the day then bombarding your brain cells with Buffy! Maybe Bruce Campbell movies, but that's just my own personal joy. Still 18 hours of Sarah Michelle Gellar. I could get used to that.

Remember Buffy in the loony bin in "Normal Again"? Picture the male version of that, and that's me by the time I got to "Chosen"...

well sure, now you've seen all the shows in order...
but NOW you have to watch all the commentaries!

Joss' are the best,
but David Fury & Jane Espenson do great commentary too
(I love me great commentary!)

I think (personally) the best one was
Restless
or maybe The Body

Now I'm thinking I want to go back and rewatch just the commentary my own self.

Oh, believe me, I already have. Just to clarify, this was hardly the first time I'd ever watched the DVDs--just the first (and only!!) time I'd ever marathoned thru them like that.

Yeah, Joss' are best, and Fury and Espenson are very good, as well, and also Doug Petrie, but my second-favorite commentator (and my second-favorite writer) is definitely Drew Goddard. The worst commentaries are probably Marti Noxon's for "What's My Line?" (both parts), Michael Gershman's for "Consequences", and David Solomon/Rebecca Rand Kirshner for "Hell's Bells". The one for "Wild at Heart" with Joss/Marti/Seth is pretty bad, too...

I had one extra, completely free day after I was done, and thought about trying to watch all (or at least, most) of the commentaries, but by then, I was pretty well Buffied-out...

Well, I don't think my opinion of my top 5 and bottom 5 changed much at all, but here they are:

Favorite
1. Fool for Love
2. Bad Girls
3. Doppelgangland
4. Intervention
5. Becoming (both parts)

Least
144. Teacher's Pet
143. Bring on the Night
142. Help
141. As You Were
140. Inca Mummy Girl/Reptile Boy (can't decide between them)

I guess the thing that struck me most by watching them this way, as compared to gradually over several months, is how drastically the whole 'feel' of the show changed from the first 3 seasons compared to the last 3... and not really for the better (I'd of course noticed this before, but it's really obvious when watching them so packed together like that). The school library was just a warm, inviting sort of place to watch the gang hang around in, and when it was gone, I missed it. The Magic Box was a decent replacement, but then by S7 that was gone, too, and Buffy's house was a poor substitute.

The show also really suffered once Giles and Joyce weren't around anymore. They were, in a very real sense, the glue that held it all together, and I don't think they were appreciated nearly enough--until they weren't there anymore, and you realized what a big hole they left...

You got me beat!!! I've done it over the course of a month or two(approximately) several times before---2 or 3 on worknights, more on weekends and vacation days. I've also done it with ANGEL. FIREFLY & SERENITY, I've done in a weekend before, VERONICA MARS (2 seasons) in a couple of weeks, and 2 seasons of LOST in about
3-4 weeks.

Absolutely!!! I love the commentaries! As you say Joss' are the best, because he is so insightful! Jane Espenson is a very, very close second because she is clearly so in love with the show. She unloads so much information on you it's a real treat. Also she is wicked funny too :D I love her episodes as they're often wonderfully humourous.

Funnily enough although I love David Solomon's direction his commentaries are just too rigid :( which is a pity. I guess he just doesn't like being so exposed like that, which is fair enough.

Oh, and I'll give you one more thing I noticed this time around: Charisma acquired her... 'surgical enhancements'... sometime around 2/3 of the way thru S2 (I'd been wondering for awhile when exactly it'd happened). Major turn-off . Real beats fake any day of the week, no matter what the size. Best example of that is the fact that Charisma isn't even in the same hemisphere as Amy Acker when it comes to all-around hotness...

And I'd better shut up now before I go too much further off-topic...

Too late. I completely disagree about Charisma's hotness. As much as I disliked Cordelia I still find Charisma to be one of the hottest females in the Buffyverse. I tend to put Amy in the same category as Jewel, so cute and adorable that it is almost unbearable. Just as a reference I believe Eliza Dushku and Alyson Hannigan are the pre-eminent hotties on the show.

As far as the original topic goes I am completely impressed. You must have looked like that fellow in PCU by the time you were finished. My best effort was watching both seasons of Dark Angel over a 3 day weekend.

*heh heh , he said "Dark Angel", heh heh*

Now that's a more attainable goal for me, but it would have to be when my family is away visiting or something....
Actually, I must do it!!!
Thanks Singate, I'm gonna get right on planning it!
COOL!!!!
