I'm an Anime fan. But I've never felt the need to go to conventions. Can you get items at conventions you can't get anywhere else in the States?

Most definitely! At least, most of the time. You can get import games and videos, manga and art direct from Japan, weird plushies and souvenirs.. tons of stuff.

As to cons, I recommend Anime Expo and Otakon as the two best to go to.

I had been thinking of doing a thread that asked this same question, as well as what were peoples areas of interest/ favorites. Since this thread is here already, what do you like in anime or manga? Miyazaki doesn't count since he's a given.

For me, it would be:
1. the Five Star Stories manga
2. SPT Layzner
3. Master Keaton
4. any manga by Mitsuru Adachi
5. Crest/Banner of Stars
