Hey.

Does anyone have a half decent transcript of the letters that Simon was showing his parents in the flashback?

I have about half of what was written on them, but I just can't make out the rest... it's really blurry.

And it's really interesting, so I wanna know.

Thanks in advance.

Will you share the part you do have?

Sure thing!

It's a bit broken up, because the writing is fairly scrawled and we don't get a real good look at it. The third paragraph is all but indecipherable on my part.

Quote:

Dearest Mother and Father,

I hope you both are well and feel fine... I am doing well in school. My teachers and professors all say that it is so... Some days I love it more than I thought I would.

My thoughts often wander to the grand time we had last summer at the lake. I... and swimming in the lake, the deep blue... made the summer days melt away.

We all had such a good tyme...

See? Already with the 'deep blue' making the days 'melt away'. I'm intrigued enough to want to fill in the blanks.

edit:
Interesting to note, as well, that she spells the word in the last paragraph as 'tyme'. Simon did say she made spelling errors and I'm wondering if that was part of her code.

Since deciphering the words was more of a game of seeing the shape of them rather than the letters themselves, I didn't really catch if any of the other words were different.

That's very intruiging! I commend your obsessive attention to details. I wouldn't have expected the text to be a production designer's grocery list since they didn't seem visible on screen, so it's pleasantly surprising to see the enticing tidbits they actually included. Good job!

It's surprising how much you notice when you take the time to. I've had enough practice writing the guides (on www.havendehellmouth.com) to know that nothing in the Joss Verse is ever random. I've only just started Firefly epis, so it's pretty cool right now).

If you'd spent the time I have transcribing all the computer screens shown on Angel you'd know how much attention the set designers actually put in. You can find out the most interesting little details (like the name and career of Phantom Dennis' father, or the fact that USC sends Buffy's mail the wrong address and it still reaches her).

I'll look more carefully in the future. I like the little details (such as the ubiquitious Blue Sun etc), but had never imagined that things that I didn't even think were visible on the screen would be the subject of the designer's attentions. Very cool.

SHINYSEVEN

In the AtS episode where Lorne is being held prisoner in Las Vegas, when Wes, Gunn and Fred finally turn up, Lorne says that when he kept talking about "Fluffy" in this phone conversations--"the dog you don't have" that's "the international symbol for 'I Have Been Kidnapped'"--I wonder which script was written first and if the first one influenced the second one.

Sadistic crap legitimized by florid prose. Tell me you're not a fan.

If you want a good laugh, pause the DVD in BtVS season 4 for the 'Hush' episode when Giles holds the Sunnydale paper up close to the camera. The headlines all pertain to the events of the episode...however the content of the articles them selves are a riot.

Do not fear me. Ours is a peaceful race, and we must live in harmony.
