The August 7th edition of SUNDAY MORNING SHOOTOUT came from ComicCon. A guy named Tim Gray was on the floor and did an all-too-brief interview with Joss.

Tim Gray: I'm here with Joss Whedon, the creator of BUFFY, THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, and ANGEL, and the T.V. show FIREFLY which only ran eleven episodes but is being turned into a feature film. And Joss was described to me as one of the Gods of ComicCon.

To Joss: Now SERENITY is based on a T.V. series that ran, what, for eleven episodes? I mean it's very rare for that short a T.V. series to become a feature film. Was this--is this revenge? Is this ahh...

Joss: This was about a different kind of passion--as strong as revenge, but it was love. I loved this show too much, and the fans loved this show too much, and the cast loved each other too much, and I loved the way they played their roles too much to let it die. It was never about "I'll show them." Yes, I have pride, and I don't like people to think of the show as having failed when I think it just never got a chance.

Gray: Now your father and grandfather were Hollywood storytellers as well, but the big difference is they didn't have an internet watching every move they make, every...costume decision, every script decision. H-How much do you pay attention to that?

Joss: Well, I pay a lot of attention to what's going on on the internet, but not so much to help me with specific decisions as to just get a general feeling of what seems to be working and what isn't. If you tell the story well enough, they will come, and then you'll deal with them as best you can. But, ah, if you don't tell it well enough then you're just kidding yourself.
