SEBC DragonCon Urgent Update Regarding Donations

I just received the following from Cary about the SEBC and DragonCon:

The SEBC has just been informed this evening that effective this year, DragonCon does not allow their events to have sponsorships – meaning the Shindig. We have two options with regards to your wonderful Browncoat donations. We can use them to provide better give-away goodies at the booth and the costume contests and future events, as well as have a slightly bigger amount to donate to our charity after the event; or we can provide a refund to you – it is your choice. Please contact isaidso at mindspring dot com if you donated to advise your wishes. Our sincere apologies for this unexpected turn of events.

The Shindig is NOT cancelled. We just had to clear up some things that Cary found out today. So, fun will still be had by all!

Am I pulling a "Jayne" here? I don't understand at all, to me sponsership means some company gave you a bunch of money and you mention their kindness somewhere. We just all donated some money, what is DragonCon talking about? And what exactly does that mean with regards to the Shindig. As far as any extra money, I'd rather see it go toward more prizes, or printing costs or whatever for the fan table.

I aim to misbehave!

So how DO we contribute to the shindig???
Donations at the door??
Pass the hat once the adult beverages start flowing??
Last I heard a thousand person room at dragoncon wasn't exactly free!
So how(without violating any DC rules)does a Rabid Browncoat help fund a shindig we can all be proud of???
