What have we learned from The Sessions?

Or what has been confirmed for us? Or what (non-spolier) questions have been raised?

Confirmed: River really does love her brother more than her parents.

Query: I wonder how the other "students'" progress/disintegration compares to River's?

Session 1:
- River prefers physics and dance.
- Even before the Academy, River was able to 'sense' things from people, to get the gist of what they were saying when they weren't saying it. Simon said she was born with a third eye.
- Vogler, who wants to be important, was jealous of her success.
- Her classmates called her 'Little Mouse'.

Session 22:
- The opening sentence shows that River is already scared of this man and his colleagues, she begins by disagreeing with Joss... "I don't think..." and then quickly stops and apologises for it.
- We learn that whatever they're doing, it hurts.
- One of her doctors is Dr. Mathias.
- When Joss asks her 'what can you see?', River quite easily 'sees' one of their past failures.
- They lost the first one, he died on their table, they cut too deep.
- Interesting to note, River looks Joss directly in the eyes when she echoes what he says to comfort the crying attendant 'we're doing such good works'. Her tone of voice suggests she knows that they'd doing anything but. It's the only time she looks directly at him during this bit.
- River tried to get to see Simon, she placed more importance on her relationship with Simon than her relationship with anyone else.

Session 165:
- Even the orderlies wear masks, River is not allowed to see anyone's face.
- River believes that there's something in her mattress that is a danger to her spine.
- She wants a mission, she doesn't want to be there, to have suffered all this, for no reason.
- They cut something out of her.

Session 416:
- Joss did something that River did not like. A lot.

We'll just have to wait for the first excerpt to find out, won't we?

ps... I'm not going to spoil you, but there is a line in session 22 that comes up again during the BDM.

WHITEFALL

I think that we didnt really learn anything, so much as reinforce what we knew...

We knew River was tortured in the Academy. We didnt know what she was like before she came to them, we didnt know what happened while inside.

The idea, imo, was to make this mysterious atrocity more palpable, and i think Joss and Summer really succeeded on that score. We saw what river was like before she was changed, when she was really just 'intuitive'... especially important was the order.... 416 showed us what we knew, River is dangerous, and damaged. 1 showed us the true horror of it, this charming and innocent girl had become... that. the other two solidified the transformation.

You know that feeling you got in the Early-Kaylee scene? well, I think Joss wanted to make everyone feel that way about the Academy.

I survived a day in Whitefall and all I got was this lousy signature!
