Guns on FF

I've been re-watching all the FF eps, in production order, and something occured to me about the use of 6-shooters in the show.

Most of the other characters seem to have semi-auto pistols. Jayne has several. The 'law-man' in Serenity has a few. Even the yokels in the train job all have magazine fed semi-autos. In fact, Mal seems to be the expection with his revolver. So why would he use a weapon with a slower rate of fire, longer reloading time, and less capacity? My guess is sentimental value. I think Mal recieved that pistol as a sort of heirloom, or more likely to me, as a gift from his troops after the war. (It's not an uncommon thing). A revolver like that, still in workeing order, would probably have some value 500 years from now, as a collectors item.

That's why I like Mal, he uses it, rather that lookin at it.

Well, it's not a revolver. It is just reminscient of one. When Mal and crew are getting off of Serenity in the episode Serenity (to go see Badger) he checks the clip on his pistol (by taking it off, looking at it, then reattaching it). It is a small box clip just ahead of the trigger guard.
