Anyone else notice any comparisons between the Alliance of Firefly and the Empire of Star Wars? Seems pretty blatant to me. Even the uniforms are similar.

Though the Empire is portrayed as pretty clearly evil in Star Wars, it's oppression seems much more subtle. Sure they blow up planets, sure they have a couple of sadistic madmen running the show, but beyond that, they seem to be an organization that does little more than force order on the people of the former republic. I've heard a number of comparsions made between Mal and Han Solo - both are smugglers, both are former military leaders, both are roughly hewn adventurers who are not above breaking the law but are inherently good at heart.

It seems that Empire is to Han Solo what The Alliance is to Mal - always there, always oppressing, but a fact of life to be dealt with on a daily basis.
