Just wanted to say Merry Christmas all... &

... just happened to stop in at IMDb. Did you know that Serenity ranks just behind CASABLANCA at the moment?

CASABLANCA has 565 reviews, and rates an 8.8 with 75,346 votes. It got 3 Oscars and is generally considered one of the Top 10 movies ever made. In 1942 it hardly made a ripple; it was late night TV that made it durable.

SERENITY now has 1005 reviews (101 pages) and a ranking of 8.1 (majority of the negs are of the 'I don't get it, why didn't they remake Baby5 instead?)

There seems to be a real uprising going on there; here are the recent posts they show:

AAHHAAA

The 'Offical' description seems a tetch ye-bun-deh to me.
Serenity is in a niche category as a film that follows a TV series. That creates special story-telling hurdles that Joss handled brilliantly.

To recap 13 hours of story/character development, while telling another compelling story, has hardly been done well.

I don't think there is an Oscar for that, but if there was, Joss would get it hands down.

I wish those IMDb main reviews were more written by people in the biz.
More like going to a concert, where you can see the individual musicians contributions, versus some ignoramus reviewing a CD as 'a bunch of loud sounds that stop every so often'. Seriously!:]
