Hey all,

Im thinking about starting a cafepress and setting up a personal website to link through. I was just wondering, for the merchandise im going to sell, what images or ideas of tv shows can i use, and which can i not? I dont want to get into any trouble over this, im just looking to make some shirts i think should be made but arent yet.

I was planning on making some firefly shirts of the characters. The images would be totally filtered out with photoshop, but still able to tell who they are. Like they were painted or drawn onto the shirts.

I was also thinking of making some Avatar: the last airbender shirts. Maybe the bending symbols or something. since they dont make any of those ne more. But i have no idea if i would get in trouble or not.

Well, any input or links to resources where i could look this stuff up at would be nice. I just know that there are some helpful ppl here so i decided to post right away. Thanks in advanced.

I'm no expert, but from what I've seen of others' experiences with this stuff, you can't use any actual stuff from the show. So, you could make a shirt that says "I'm a leaf on the wind", with a picture of a leaf, but not with a picture of Wash. I think. In any event, cafe press will just shut down your store if it's in violation, I'm not sure how much actual 'trouble' you'd get into, and you might actually be able to squeak out a couple of shirts before they do.

There have been alot of threads about this kind of thing, so i'd recommend taking the time to search for them (I generally use Google's advanced search to narrow the search down to this domain only, but you could also just browse the archives).

But let me reiterate, I really don't know what I'm talking about here, so definately do more research!
