OK, so I'm watching Angel S4 on DVD and have just finished the 2nd disk (ep8) and have noticed that David Greenwalt is no longer listed as an executive producer. What happened to him? He was a creator of the series and it still says that David Greenwalt Productions makes the show so why doesn't it list the man himself? I'd just like to know the answer out of curiosity really but what made my curiosity worse was that on one episode (think it was ep4) it did list him but then it didn't list him on any others. Did something happen?

David Greenwalt signed a deal with ABC/Disney for a lot more money than he was making with 20th Century FOX, so he left Angel. That's about it. He came back to direct a season 5 episode for the sake of nostalgia and to say goodbye to the series. There's not a whole big story or anything. It was a money thing.

It's always about the money...

Thanks for the answer.

If you go back and re-watch "The House Always Wins", you'll see one of the destinies passing by on the electronic boards in DeMarco's control room says "Deal to Develop New TV Series for Disney." This was thrown in there as a nod to Greenwalt.

I think he also came back and worked on Angel during the last few episodes of S4 (after his ABC show "Miracles" had been cancelled). At one point in the 21st episode you'll see a church with the words "God is Nowhere" on their sign out front--this saying was apparently something that was used often in "Miracles" (I didn't watch the show, so couldn't tell you its significance).

He isn't listed as the writer or director of any of those end-of-S4 eps, tho, so I'm not positive he made a brief return--just something I remember reading. But like Amyel said, he did come back and direct episode 20 of S5.

Miracles was pretty good - - but absolutely the wrong thing for ABC/Disney. I recommend the DVD set.Maybe not to buy, but Netflix it if you got it.

God is Nowhere is definitely a Miracles shout out. If you don't care about ever watching it...

There was this impending apocalypse/holy war subplot where several people had sort of stigmata experiences, where in their own blood it was written GODISNOWHERE. There was a division between people who read it as 'nowhere' or 'now here'.
