prolly a dumb idea...

First, if there's already a thread suggesting this, sorry. I am just now becoming somewhat proficient at navagating this site and could have missed it.

Okay, online petitions don't work. That seems to be the general consensus around here. But the petition about Firefly and premium TV (HBO, Showtime) that was bumped a few days ago does make a solid argument. So what if instead of simply signing some piece of paper, we put our money where our mouths are:

While Cinimax has already premiered Serenity, it doesn't air on HBO until next month. What if we all ordered HBO (direct, not from local cable company) and told them that is why. Then, when Sept. is over, we all cancel and forward that petition (or some other concise document) and explain our reason (again directly to HBO, not locals).

Could there be enough of us to affect the bottom line and make HBO see the economic potential of the show? Is there even enough time to organize such a thing? Would a premium channel even have the chance to put the show on with all the variables out there (does Fox still own the rights, if so would Fox sell the rights, is Whedon interested, is the cast available [Torres is ALL over TV], and so on).

I'm, obviously, not the sharpest tool in the shed, but could this type of idea have any merit or is it just another hopeless cause? I just figured most of us would gladly spend 20 bucks a month to have this back on the air and I KNOW there is somebody out there who would happily take our 20 bucks. I just believe the trick is finding that person.

Anywho, I'll keep dreaming of the day...
