Greetings and salutations to all my fellow Browncoats,
I love the verse and all of us who are in it. Does anybody know what the totals for the BDM was. I heard that the movie broke even. I find it hard to believe that with the movie budget and the force of Browncoats that the Universal didn't reap some great cashy money.

Give me my trilogy!!!!!!!!!!

According to rottentomatoes.com it grossed 25.3 million in the theatre and 7.6 Million on rentals domestically. Not sure what it did overseas or on DVD sales.

Thanks Redlava,

I can't believe with all the c**p movies and sequels being made that Universal wouldn't think of greenlighting another trip to the verse.
I don't think Josh spent that much making the movie.

They're making another Star Trek movie, what's up with that?

I'd take Mal and his crew over the "Federation" anytime.

Let's hope that Josh's "Wonder Woman" is a huge box office smash. That should give Josh credibility and maybe they'll allow him to choose his next project.

Sapaz, his name is "Joss" Whedon, not "Josh". lol

And hey, i like Star Trek! But there are some crappy movies that shouldn't have been made, and i don't see why Universal can't just greenlight another movie. It's sort of ridiculous to be honest.

Thanks Nanite1018,
My Bad. I wasn't puting down the Star Trek franchise, But rather pointing out that here is a seires that was given a chance to make feature films, good , bad , or indifferent.

I know that if "Joss" was given the chance the next two installments of the BDM would kick some major a**!

Late.

As has been discussed on this board many, many times, this was the basic blunder of Uni's marketing campaign. They relied on Browncoats to do viral marketing and spread word of mouth, thinking that would draw folks into the theater--and they didn't pour much cash into other forms of marketing. But apparently, there aren't nearly as many fanatically devoted Browncoats as it would appear. Even if there are 50,000 of us (and that would be a massive overestimation, IMHO) who each saw the movie ten times at ten bucks a shot, that's only $5m. No, this movie always depended on a broad appeal, and thanks to Uni's cocked-up marketing strategy, we never got that.

I thought in the red was bad, and in the black was good.

you are right sahara, and everything I've read has said that the Serenity DVD sales has taken Universal "to the black." How MUCH "black" is the unanswered question, but I'm going to tell myself that the fact that new licensed merch is coming from the studio since the BDM made it's cable debut can only be a good sign. And I'll keep telling myself that until the BDS is announced! :)

Yeah...actually Sahara is right. We don't want it "in the red" (that is, losing money); we want it "in the black" (that is, making money). Sorry if I'm being snarky, but had to say.
