In several episodes I've noticed Mal and Jayne accentuate their vowels, as in the often used word, hilarious. Is this an outer rim accent or just Mal and Jayne having a joke? I think I've heard some of the people they've met on the less populated moons speak this way. Has anyone else noticed?

I think that Mal is more poking fun (at people in general, and perhaps Jayne in particular), and Jayne actually learned to speak like that. Of course, that's my vision of them, and not Joss'.

Yes I've noticed the have reverted back to a more western dialect. Like "ownself". I don't hear that spoken anymore. I'm sure this is because the outer rim is so isolated like the wild west was. Joss wanted that feel I'm sure.

I agree with you that Mal and Jayne like to thicken their language for fun. I've simply have to watch more and listen to others and how they speak. I know Simon, River, Inara and Book are more sophisticated because they come from the core planets but rest, like Kaylee, are certaintly outer rim creatures.

I liken Kaylee to the girl stuck on the cattle ranch out in the middle of nowhere in the old west. You know surrounded by men, salt of the earth meets earth mother.

Hello FutureMrsFillion:

I was watching Shindig and Badger was holding the crew until Mal's duel ended. And while the crew were playing card they were trying to form a plan. Jayne said "diversion" with a highly accentuated "I". Since this is a serious situation it was not a joke on his part. Now does Jayne come from the Rim or the Core? He could either. There are sure to be people like through the entire system.
I guess Mal just picked up from Jayne because he finds it hilarious.

Nice picture! Penguin the King of the Mythical Land that is Iowa can make that smaller for you!

I definately think there is more to Jayne than meets the eye. I certainly think he is much much smarter than he appears.

Hello FutureMrsFillion:

Just got done watching "Out Of Gas". I tend do agree with you about the intellegence. I think Both Jayne and Kaylee are smarter than they appear. I feel their backgrounds held them back. Serenity is giving them a chance to grow.

I've said this not more than a day or two ago. If the series had lasted longer you would have big changes in these two.

That's okay about the size. I'm just happy I can post an occasional picture.
