TWILIGHTJACK

I was looking at a fan-site for the show Veronica Mars just a moment ago, and it seems that a group of fans for that show have been donating DVD sets of the first season to public libraries throughout the nation. Their goal is to get into all fifty states and all one hundred major demographic regions.

Currently, it would seem they've donated over 400 DVD sets.

Has there been any sort of organized Browncoat efforts along these lines, putting the show in front of millions of potential viewers? If so, how is that looking?

Speaking as a regular library visitor, I know I borrow movies and TV shows, as well as books. Although the selection ain't as good as the local video store, it's cheaper and you occasionally find a real treasure.

Let's go ahead and bury some of that treasure for others.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I don't know if it was ever a coordinated effort, but there has been discussion of this over on the OB:

I personally donated a Firefly set to my town's main branch nearly two years ago, and the last time I checked that is still all they have, and it is constantly in circulation.

So, in your personal experience, this has been viable?

Yes, TwilightJack. It's been viable.

When we had the drive to buy a lot of DVD's on the 23rd to coincide with Joss' birthday we were encouraged to donate to our local libraries if we already had a copy and had no gifting to be done.

I donated Serenity DVD's to my local country library, the library in the county above mine and also to the local University library. We were also encouraged to donate a copy to Whedonesque.org which makes sure that Firefly, Serenity, Buffy and Angel are donated to libraries all across the nation.

We could certainly do it again for Christmas though, if everyone wanted to.
