STOWEAWAY

Ni hao!

I want to invite you all to join us in Charlotte for our next shindig. It will be the first-ever Train Job Photo Scavenger Hunt.

Saturday, December 6th
1p-4:30p
Charlotte, NC

We will start at 1p and finish by 4:30p. At the end of the hunt, you would have the option of hanging around for dinner with us. Or to head
out if you have other obligations -- I know that may be a big weekend for corporate holiday parties.
Rain on the 6th would force us to postpone the scavenger hunt to the following Saturday, the 13th. Incidentally, only rain will cancel the
scavenger hunt. In the case of cold weather, we will proceed -- with plenty of scarves & mittens. In which case our northern transplants may have the advantage. :o)

Here are some of the details of the hunt:

-- It is called the Train Job because the entire scavenger hunt will be conducted by train using Charlotte's new light rail. From each train station, your clues can be collected on foot usually within a one block radius (occasionally two blocks)
-- Almost all clues will be collected by digital camera. Each team will be required to have one. Points will be assigned to each photo depending on the difficulty in acquiring it.
-- All of the photos or objects required will be free of charge. The only cost will be for a round-trip light rail ticket which is $3.00.
Although you will likely need to purchase an additional one-way pass along the way for another $1.50.
-- A lot of the clues will be Firefly or Serenity related. But this is mostly a chance to see Charlotte from a different perspective,
learn interesting facts about our city's history, and spend time with our shiny Browncoat family.
-- We will begin at the southernmost rail station located at South Blvd & I-485. The hunt will end at the 7th street station in uptown.
Don't worry if you aren't familiar with the light rail, we will have a quick tutorial on the day of the scavenger hunt.
-- The finish line will be at an uptown restaurant. The photos will be uploaded & reviewed and points will be tallied for each team. The top prize will be awarded at that time.

If you're interested in participating, send me private message with the following information about yourself: your name, preferred e-mail address, cell number, hometown, whether or not you have a digital camera, and your familiarity with the Charlotte area (particularly the South Blvd corridor).
Before the hunt, I will divide all the participants into teams. You'll get the e-mail addresses and cell phone numbers of the people
on your team. You can get to know each other before the scavenger hunt if you wish. The cell numbers will help you stay in contact during the hunt should you get separated from your team.

We would love to have Browncoats join us from all over the 'verse.
It should be loads of fun.

Stay shiny!

The Train Job is complete and we had a blast!

Congratulations to the Terrifyin' Space Monkeys for winning the Shining Star trophy.
Team Albatross took home the second place Sudden But Inevitable Betrayal award.
And Team Lassiter won the third place Thoroughbred of Sin award.

Many thanks to everyone who participated. It was cloudy & cold, but at least it didn't rain.
And double thanks to folks who came from far & wide -- SanFran, Raleigh and Greenville.

There were some really terrific & unique pictures produced in this competition. Team Lassiter has already uploaded theirs. Be sure to check them out -- high-larious.

I'll get more added to the Flickr page as they're posted.

ETA: *sigh* Link doesn't work. Sorry, gotta copy & paste URL 'til I figure how to fix it. It's worth the trip, though. Curses on Flickr for putting an @ in the address.
