Never even heard of it, but I love the name I guess it'll turn up on the IFC soon.

I'd heard the name and that it was Kaufman but that was about it.
The fact that Michelle Williams is in it means that I will see it at some point. She almost always turns in a good performance, even if the movie is no good.
Don't see it getting a wide UK release though.

It is. Went with my son, who dragged me to see it, and I was glad he did.

It is not an easy movie to follow, but you not be able to take your eyes away from the screen. You will find yourself caring about the characters and their lives.

It is worth it.

Synecdoche (pronounced "si-nek-duh-kee")
You could put Bill Murray's "Groundhog Day" (1993) on the same double bill with "Synecdoche."... My first time through Philip Seymour Hoffman's "Synecdoche" I felt a certain frustration. The plot would not stay still. It kept running off and barking at cats. The second time was more soothing. I knew what was going on. It is what goes on every day of our lives, made visual by the inspired set design... Jerry Lewis' "The Ladies' Man" (1961) does the same thing, with a famous set that must have been an inspiration for "Synecdoche." http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/2008/11/o_synecdoche_my_synecdoche.htm

Wow. Not easy to follow. Kaufman changed the form of cinema with Adaptation. With this film, he obliterates the form of traditional film structure.

I liked it just fine, but will have to see it again to comprehend it better.

It's such a depressing film you will feel better about yourself after you watch it. The character of Caden played by Philip Seymour Hoffman is about as tragic as you will ever see in a film. He loves his work as a theater director, but his personal life and peculiar illness put him through the ringer. Great performances by the whole cast. If you want strange, watch this film.
