I'm not playing with the graphics, but I have a suggestion/concept.
Particularly for the car window shades and car flyers for announcing local CSTS events.
Have a large shot of Firefly Serenity dead center. Then to the top left a Firefly Logo, and to the top right a Serenity Logo, and the bottom left a CSTS logo, and the bottom right could have one or more of Mutant Enemy, Zoic, Universal, Fox Logos. I was conjuring this in landscape format.
A few lines at bottom center could be included for flyers to write in cinema locations and dates. (reportedly more different dates will be used because most of the film prints were destroyed by Universal)

I love that idea - using your car as a moving billboard. I submitted it to our "ideas" thread when you first suggested it last year. (That was you, right?)
Now that there's been a change in administration, I think its worth another mention. Thanks, JSF

And as far as the film print shortage -- Universal is encouraging us to go to DVD this year if at all possible. And they've made DVD a more attractive option than film. So hopefully cities can start moving to DVD and avoid any hassles with the film shortage.

Do you have a city where you can attend a CSTS event?

And tell anybody you can about the art contest. We'd love to see a bunch of different submissions so folks can choose what kind of shirt they want to wear around town.

yep. I mentioned that last year. thread should still be around here, some other ideas were in it I think.

I had hoped for flyers for the side windows of vehicles, and the window shades for the front windshield. These would be most effective when parked in a cinema lot, while watching other films for the next few months, right were our "target demographic" is walking by. I think a big Firefly classcode spaceship should pique the interest of those suseptible but not yet familiar with it.
I was able to attend the Madison CSTS last year, and had tried the Minneapolis/St Paul event about a year ago, but blizzard conditions closed most of the roads on the way there.

Getting those flyers out NOW would be better, at least for warmer climes - next month would be about right for my locale.

here's the thread:

Remember the name tag idea, something we could print out ourselves after pasting in a pic.
And if pre-purchased tickets are done, include mini-posters for car windows and such, in a mail out ASAP.

Oh and the poster/sunshade...
The top center could be trimmed with stuff like www.fireflyfans.net and whedonesque.com and CSTS.org and such like that.

And if they are going to DVD, could the Pilot Serenity also be shown, like a pre-show entertainment?

Ah yes. That was an extremely productive thread -- lots of great ideas.
Thanks for the link to it. I can post it over at CSTS in case folks need a refresher while they're preparing for 2009.

Each city can make their promotional flyers available to the public. The easiest way would be to have a link on their website. That's what we do locally. So anyone who wants to help out can print a few and post them around town. (Or paste them into their car)

I truly wish we could show the Serenity Pilot before the movie. But that's a Firefly property and is no longer allowed public viewing (just like the Buffy Sing-a-Long). Fox put the kabosh on that.
But there are other productions that we plan to show in addition to Serenity this year. You should head over to www.cantstoptheserenity.com to catch some of the "rumors". And look for official announcements VERY SOON.

I truly appreciate all the input. We organizers work hard every year and we want to know what works & what doesn't so we don't repeat any mistakes unnecessarily. And the fact that all your suggestions are constructive is doubly appreciated.

Stay shiny!

Still 11 days left to submit a design.

Entries are starting to trickle in at CSTS headquarters. Won't be long before we have our official shirt design for 2009. Stay tuned!

(LOL, we don't really have an HQ. But we should -- like the BatCave.)
