GILOVE2DANCE

I was so suprised to see this in the Ottawa Citizen!! I was looking for the Saturday comics and there was Nathan smiling at me from the cover of the arts section!

Here the picture of the article:

And for those who can't read it:

Nathan Fillion isn’t a mystery novelist. But he’s about to play one on TV. Think of it as a case of “Murder he wrote.”

Castle is a new detective series in which Edmonton-born Fillion plays Richard Castle, a successful mystery novelist singled out by a copycat killer determined to recreate the murders depicted in his books.

Castle is bored with his success, but he’s about to learn that success can exact a heavy price. When it becomes evident that murderer is imitating the crime scenes in his books, right down to the tiniest detail, police detectives target him as “a person of interest.”

The case is solved in Castle’s opening hour, but the die is cast: Castle is about to embark on a freelance career as a consultant to the local police department. Naturally, sparks fly between Castle and his unofficial partner, Det. Kate Beckett, played by fellow Canadian Stana Katic.

It’s Fillion’s first starring role in a TV series since he played Capt. Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds in Joss Whedon’s short-lived sci-fi cult classic Firefly, in 2003.

“There’s a little part of me inside that’s the insecure actor,” Fillion said, with a wry laugh. “Being the title character probably means I won’t get killed off in the second season.”

Fillion followed Firefly with a recurring role in Desperate Housewives as Dr. Adam Mayfair, the younger husband of desperate housewife Katherine Mayfair, played by Dana Delany.

“Lovely, lovely group. Really nice people,” Fillion said. “I made a lot of friends. They were very kind to me. But I spent a lot of time sitting around in a living room, saying, ‘Uh huh.’ ‘Yes.’ ‘That’s right.’ ‘I’ll back you up on that.’”

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

“The show is called Desperate Housewives,” Fillion said. “It’s about the housewives. No one’s complaining over there. Everybody’s well-treated, having a good time and doing what they love. They’re actors who are actually acting. And I’m not complaining, either. They didn’t kill off my character. He got a real beating, but he didn’t die. I’m always willing to go back.”

Fillion has become a voracious reader of mystery novels, which he chalks up as research. His reading list includes Robert B. Parker, Clive Cussler and James Patterson.

In a wink to the reading audience, Patterson plays himself in Castle’s opener, as a member of a writer’s group. Another real-life writer at the table is veteran TV producer-writer-novelist and occasional actor Stephen J. Cannell.

Cannell and Patterson will return in future episodes, with other, yet-to-be-named novelists.

Richard “Rick” Castle is merely the latest in a long line of TV private eyes who chase alcohol, women and wrongdoers, and not necessarily in that order.

Fillion doesn’t take offence at being called the new Angela Lansbury.

“That’s what I like to say,’ he said laughing. “They hate it when I say that. But I like to say it, just the same. If Angela Lansbury was more manly. But just a little.’

I hope for Nathan's sake that the show does well. But the reviews for it have not been kind.

"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."

Well, I'll give it a try because it's Nathan (not the kind of show I'd check out otherwise). But if I don't like it....

I'll watch it, heck, it's Nathan Fillion's trademark reaction humour and drama acting.

Quirky and fun all wrapped up in cool.
