(I didn't see this mentioned anywhere else, so I hope this isn't old news...)

One of the really BIG things the missus and I saw at Dragon*Con was the trailer for Browncoats: Redemption, a new, Joss-blessed fan film which will release in 2010. Looks awesome shiny! Detailed info at:

http://browncoatsmovie.com/

Most of the cast and some of the crew were there, as well as the folks behind KNTR, one of the charities benefiting from the proceeds of the film. If they can sell 32,000 DVDs, they figure they'll have a success. I figger we can surprise 'em by buying just a little bit more'n that.

What this means is, we can get new quality tales from the 'Verse without having to bow to F*X, help a number of worthwhile charities, and possibly (depending on who they can get) see cameos from some of our familiar BDHs and associated individuals. Sorry, they couldn't specify who might turn up, but did mention that more details might be revealed on the web page.

Let's keep an eye on this one!

Can't stop the Signal!

I had the honor to work a Saturday in April as an extra on this great production and I also am active in KidsNeedtoRead. Needless to say I am very impressed by what Michael Doughtery and crew have done. I think they are going to surprise

Personally I want to be put down for about a half dozen DVD's to keep/give away.

And I want several copies of the blooper reels if any of the stories are true-I know parts of the being kicked out of the park by the police story is true-I was there! :)

Oh my, yes... Getting kicked out of the park was definitely an adventure! (as was finding the other one) :) The "extras filming day" was so much fun anyway though, and mostly made me feel like we were aboard Serenity (we all know how well Mal's plans tend to follow his original designs... But hey, they work out in the end)

I'm so looking forward to the release of this film next year! Time to start saving my pennies so I can buy a dozen or so of these on DVD. I know what my extended family is getting for Christmas next year... :P

2010 seems so long to wait--oh, to have been at Dragon*Con, but thanks for posting the news updates anyway! :) (ducks back into lurkerdom--having a real job now kinda is not so fun or conducive to fannish addictions... but I'm very happy to have said employment since it's keeping food on the table and fuel in the tanks!)

We were lucky enough to be up front on Sunday for the teaser. We do have video and will post it after isolating and attaining permission to do so.

Big and tough, I got a little choked up when the character Lux was revealed.

Also, having a Native character in the film is an awesome detail. Everyone seems so dedicated to the project which seems to be one bore with love and devotion.

I attended the Baltimore CSTS Screening and met some of the fine folks who are involved with this film. A great bunch can't wait for the film to be released.

Ooh! Looky what I found:

The charities to benefit from the net proceeds are:

Equality Now
Kids Need to Read
Dyslexia Foundation
The Al Wooten, Jr. Heritage Foundation
The Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation

Let's make this shiny flick a success!

Well done.
I hope this will add lines on the resumes of them that need it.
Missed D*con this year and so did not have the pleasure of participating in the supporting event.
I will definitely buy the DVD.

Oh I soooo can't wait. We were in the event and the trailer was fabulous...
Oh and you can't "buy" it. It's a for charity only deal( that's how they got permission from Joss, Universal, and Fox) so you have to donate to get it

Here are some pictures from the panel. BTW Mike Dougherty kept pushing KNTR and had several giveaways that had people running up with open wallets for KNTR. Many thanks to those that donated.

Actually, the DVD will technically be for sale for a set rate (not sure but I think it's somewhere around $12 or $14 a pop, last time I heard). So once enough copies are sold to cover the cost of production, every red cent thereafter will go to the charities. By all means, friends, buy as many as you like for your family, friends, converts, or whomever converted you.... I know I'll be buying at least half a dozen, even though I was in the movie, just for the sake of supporting the charities.

I have a warm, fuzzy feeling that this project will exceed all expectations. The selected charities will benefit handsomely, and there will be more such projects to come.

I'm going to do this but I have to get up a costume first. Let's see how many supporters of Firefly/Serenity will meet this challenge.

We all need to find ways to advertise this more. I'm going to really start in my own circles and will keep trying to do my part. I think some viral marketing is called for. Maybe some nice looking printed post-its attached to Firefly and Serenity DVDs in stores? If I come up with something, I will forward it to the crew.

It would be great to have trailer views in the 100,000's and have this DVD "sell" at a fevered pace, blowing away everyone's greatest expectations.

Given the charitable nature of the movie, I wonder if any studios or theater chains would be willing to include the real trailer (when it is ready) in theater or DVD previews.

Your wish was answered last night. Browncoats: Redemption is going to take over the world "one post card at a time."

This appeared on FaceBook and Twitter late last night:

"Street Team" Packs are being put together. Free packs contain 100 Postcards, 50 flyers, and one DVD of the trailer. http://bit.ly/1R1SJ9
Anyone interested in a kit, please email media @ browncoatsmovie.com with your address, convention you will use it at, and if you will need more than the above mentioned amount.

Does anyone know if the Browncoat Redemption crew is checking email? Has anyone gotten a response from the "miked" or "media" accounts?

I've sent three emails since 10/26/09 with a question about donating cashy money, suggestions and offers to assist in advertising the project, as well as a "street pack" request and have not heard a peep.

I'm wondering if the person(s) with access to the email is/are swamped with other things (life, work, vacation, or other aspects of the project), if my emails got spam filtered for some reason, or who knows what...

In related news: I've been working on a viral marketing tool/idea. Hopefully it will pass muster with the BcR crew and anyone they might have to clear it with and be available soon.

I just heard back Mike D., so the BcR emails are getting through (and not buried in spam, presumably). He said that they have been REALLY busy editing the movie and getting ready for Creation Con.

P.S. Am I the only one that is reluctant to call BcR a film, because it never has been (that I know of) and likely never will be on "film"? Darn digital age mucking up the language...

The 2nd Browncoats: Redemption trailer was released at the LA Creation Firefly Salute Sunday. It will be released online next week or something.

The image quality and CG were very good. The acting in the non-mini-snippet (cut) was also quite good. To be clear - I'm not saying the other acting wasn't good; I just felt the segments were too brief for me to make an honest assessment. I'm definately even more excited about this project now. These trailers are slowly releasing more and more of the essence of the movie.
